In the last week, I convinced a neighbor to try EQ. He is awaiting a new computer, so I let him roll up his char on my system. He rolled a Vah Shir Rogue. As a little surprise, I had read the wiki page and decided to get him a Locustlure. I can't believe I've never been to Karnor's Castle before. What loot!!! Still trying for the wep, but getting richer.

Now to the topic of this thread. Because of the loot, I have been running back and forth to the Klok merchant in Dreadlands. Earlier today, I zone in and there is Gorenaire on Track. I have been using my Heroic Bard to familiarize myself with the class, and took the dragon down in minutes! It dropped two of these, Runed Bolster Belt and a Torn, Frost covered book,Woot! Now I have to hunt other dragons to get the other book, combine it and pass it to my Pally main. I'm starting to like this Bard and also refreshing memories as to why I like the Kunark expac!

Always fun to stumble on Gorenaire. For me it reminds me of the first raid I ever participated in, when it took something like 50 players to bring down that pretty ice dragon!
Those were the days... ;)

Nice and grats!

For piercer if I got time to wait, I usually go for Sharpened Mandible Spear from the Warlord in Fungus Grove. It's a pretty easy kill, can invis straight to his lair, kill a few royals and priest around him, then him. Only problem is, he has a 24 hr respawn unlike the other mobs around him. I just like it, 'cause it's easy to get to and kill, and no camping. Kill him, if no spear, wait 24hrs and do it again.

That locustlure looks nice though with the slow. I used the old world slow/snare poisons at low levels.

Here's a post on some other twinkable backstabbers: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1257098999157712273&page=1&howmany=50#msg1257117320232309003

Is there something wrong with me. I want to be dragons friends like the Oriental beliefs. Or like Merlin in the TV show Merlin.

Let's use dragons to kill all the orcs. Start with Ice dragons to smother all their fires.

I'm getting carried away ....

HeHe, I was born in the Chinese year of the Dragon, but it was exhilarating to kill one, especially solo. On my Pally main, in the very dusty corners of his bank, he still has Blazing Greaves of Fennin Ro. It was my first raid and first loot award. It gave him pink pants and was the bearer of many jokes about High Elves...... Enuff said. Smiley: oyvey

Another piercer I like to get is Fabled Gore Covered Horn, but it's too late to get until next year.

My brother and I died the first time we tried to duo Gore... by a thread (Gore was at less than 5%).

I eventually got him solo, and it was a cool thing.

Old fart! hehehehehe

The first time I encountered Gorenaire, I was a level 40 rogue running to join a wall group in DL and she kilt me ("Why must you treat my minions like dogs!....."). The next time I encountered her was in an actual fight and at level 52, I had zero chance of resisting her fear. The third time I fought her, I was level 60 and scored my highest (at the time) double backstab on her. All the other times, I've stomped her into dust. I fought her Fabled version last year with a bored then-87 Paladin with J1 wizard merc. She couldn't kill me but I was making her HP drop way too slowly (fight would've taken like 20 mins) so I brought in an 80 druid to assist and she melted (pun intended). Gore is fun because of her slow (or would be, if the slow landed. At 80+ for standard Gore, it doesn't most of the time).

I completely agree that killing Kunark dragons is awesome, if only because of the memories of wiping to them (well, except Sev. No one's ever wiped to that pansy, I don't think).
