I went to the docks in Ro to journey to Timorous Deep to try to work on my swimming skill.

This guy hangs out at the sand side of the pier. If you hail him he responds:

"Hope no-one trains the docks, I just got my level."

That's so classic. LOL. While it's definitely "out of character" for a game NPC I love this kind of in-game humor.

BTW, man, does SWIMMING level slow these days. It's incredible. It never was the easiest skill to max out but now you're gonna end up seriously waterlogged before you ever see 400. With both WIS and INT well over 1100 I'm seeing about one skillup every 3-5 minutes. I wish there was an xp-rich and loot-rich zone like Kedge for level 100, so you could painlessly level it up without even paying any attention!

Zones like Kedge aren't that great either, 'cause generally you're not moving around alot, unless you're the puller, so you don't get many chances to skill up.

Easiest spot, but still slow, is to autorun swim in the pool on west end of PoK between Bazaar and Guild Lobby. You can get skill ups afk, auto-swimming into the corner. Works in other zones too, but PoK is convenient.

Yeah, I know you can get skill-ups in any body of water where your toon goes into the swimming animation. The funny thing is I've gotten a skillup crossing that little stream that runs from Firionia Vie zone to the Lake of Ill Omen and there's barely enough water to wet your boots in some stretches. LOL

I spent a week in Kedge one time working on epics and while you're right you don't get skillups from treading water, when you spend a lot of time in a water zone, inevitably you're moving around a fair amount and the skillups seem to come effortlessly.

I try to avoid AFK swimming since I think it's a technical violation of the EULA. Altho I'm sure you mean set your toon on autoswim while you're browsing the Bazaar or talking in guildchat or some other only "semi-AFK" activity, right? ;)

I use zones like TD and the Ocean of Tears just because they're more interesting. I also like to time my swims to see what impact, if any, swim skill improvement has on speed. I started this session at 235 and I'm going to try to stick it out to max 400 and see how much faster I can swim afterwards. I shall report back!

My own favourite swim spot in the big pool in Shadowhaven. I just equip the fishbone earring and stick myself at the bottom on a corner and keep an eye on the screen or BS in general while waiting. The trick seems to be to keep it at least within 10 levels -- anything more than that and it's just vile waiting for the next you have gotten better at swimming!

I just go to Ocean of tears and jump off the boat. That seems to be the best way to do it... Swim around and have fun killing things. Like chasing sharks.

For the most part yea. Generally only when talking about AFKing in bazaar or Guild Lobby am I referring to actually leaving the computer, at least for more than a few minutes at a time (like to go to the bathroom or get a refill or switch to a browser to check something).

I'm not sure if afk swimming is against the EULA, but definitely using 3rd party autofire programs while afk is. I use those too, but not truly afk, just quick swaps to another app, if my laptop is being used or unavailable. Even then I'm checking the main screen every few minutes or more often. Sometime ago, I linked the developer statement that using autofire features of and apps was ok, as long as you weren't truly away from keyboard and could respond to tells and what not. It was years ago, or I'd look for it again, but that would be deep in my old posts.

The main programs they were against were anything that changed the data stream, or monitored it, and automated responses due to info it gleamed from the data stream. Autofire, doesn't monitor anything and it's automation is simply to repeat pressing a button and not in response to anything.

Yes, to clarify, Yther is correct. AFK skillup of swimming is not against the EULA. I got confirmation using the online chat help feature and speaking to a customer service rep personally before doing it on my druid when I returned to the game a few years ago. Yes, you are afk and getting skill ups, but you are not using any third party programs to automate the game, or press buttons repeatedly, etc. All you are doing is setting your character to auto run and walking away, so you are not violating any rules. I use the ocean in Plane of Tranquility, because there are no mobs in the water and it is safe at any level, now that the level restriction to enter the plane is removed.
