once upon a time I was on a server that this was the economy for prismatic dye. 1 guy always selling it a high price, anyone that offered it for even a hair less was bought out by him. Guildmates loved it as they made the dye and were guaranteed a sale.
No doubt other commodities have been handled the same way over the course of the game. Krono takes it to an extreme for value though.
