Timelock Server?Follow

#1 Sep 12 2013 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about another Timelock server starting up any time soon? I missed the last one (and deeply regretted it).

Thanks for your time

No news. I'm not expecting any until they do something about the current two servers. I believe they are presently somewhere around Prophecy of Ro for progression. Fippy is apparently more robust pop than Vulak. Some are calling for Vulak to be merged away, but at least one active guild on Vulak is opposed to this. Since both servers are gold-only I think SoE is reticent to mess with them, or risk deflating them with a new prog server.

However, I'm with you... I would like to see a new prog server at classic era. Hopefully they try some new rulesets in this genre soon. For example... I would rather play on one that did 6 months per expac as long as a certain population level was maintained. I think that would be strong until GoD at least...

It was mentioned at SOE Live that there is one planned for 2014. Whether it's timelocked (I seriously doubt they'd recycle that concept) or what, wasn't said. Just that there are tentative plans for a nostalgia server. It was mentioned there that Vulak is "a ghost town" so the subject of merging it came up but no one at SOE would speak on that.

There was a panel on TLP on the last day of the event where this was, of course, mentioned. You might be able to find a writeup somewhere.

Thank you for the excellent responses.

Yes, I'm with you, Snailish, I'd love to see a long lasting timelock enforced. I wouldn't mind seeing a little messing around with it too - like maybe delaying PoP in favor of LDoN (but leave in the PoP level cap and AAs). Just a thought, but anything to delay the (as some see it) decay of the more difficult raiding and whatnot.

I wish I hadn't missed the Fippy and Vulak. But, there's a mess of my friends all ready to jump on any new timelock that might release.

By the way, Nalith and Famena, I'm looking for you both. Log in and send me an email or something. Or post to this message. I was a certain mage you once knew.

Thanks again.

I think different kinds of locks can work. I think the voting (as implemented) was a fail.

I'd also be willing to try a level-cap-skewed unlock style. That's a big name... basically:

Original content level cap becomes 40 (or even 30). This makes it much harder to beat the encounters to progress the expac. Say 30 wasn't working... after 3 months boost it to 35. Make Kunark cap 45 to start... and so on.

I see this making the raiding challenging and buying the more casual crowd some time in era.

Of course, I would also make a "Child of Sullon Zek" server with that pvp ruleset and progression stopped at PoP (augments mess up the "loot one item that is nodrop" aspect --which iirc was originally part of SZ rules?). So I am probably more daring than SoE with rulesets...

We need a DISCORD server!! Remember that? PVP server and if you die once, you roll back to level 1. It would take GUTS to play there!

As I recall, there was originally supposed to be a prize for the top 5 people on the server after a certain date with the reward being an item named after your character. But given that everyone in the top tier of characters was cheating like a ****, the reward was quietly shelved and nothing ever came from it.

Well, evidently they're a lot better at catching cheaters these days so maybe the concept could work honestly. If they avoided giving any kind of prizes the incentive to cheat would be lessened. Altho like most variant servers, it might be crowded at the beginning but as the novelty wears off the population would decline inexorably.

On a separate note, a timelock server on Sony's servers is NOT a classic server. Sony has never been able to reinstall a lot of the original code and data. Frankly, for a realistic classic server you have to go elsewhere, to "irregular" servers whose names cannot be mentioned in these forums. Smiley: rolleyes

Nah I don't think Sony will do it again.

Ever go to the PVP server? People cheat out in the open and don't get called for it, a Discord server would be problematic unless is was HEAVILY monitored to prevent cheaters.

I think a mangled version of Everquest would make an interesting server. Like someone said, restricting the level cap for awhile might be funny - how many level 10s do you need to take down Lord Pickclaw?

For myself, I'm not looking for a "classic" server and I have no illusions about what a new server would be (not that "new") but still, I loved the older content of EQ and I would try and be present every time they set one up. Even if it's wrong or everyone isn't happy, they can always do another (and I'd be there for that one too).

Sadly, a lot of the qualities that make Everquest (new and old) so great have never really been duplicated by any other game. You'll be hard pressed to find a game now that has character development as in depth and personal as the AA system was (and still is?) not to mention the spells, keys, skills, gear, augments, and just plain experience. Also the fun of searching new zones, finding Named and their placeholders, learning the pulling patterns (for pac and mez impaired like myself) and just being dependant on your friends for help is something of the past, from what I can tell. Where can we find these things but Everquest?

Anyways, I can't wait to see a new server, whenever it might come, and I'll certainly be there with all of my friends.
