A lot of people were waiting on them around the 15th-16th. The same time they did it last year.

A much better solution would be to rotate the zones from one day to another, to mix it up a bit.

They could even just use zones that have already been used in the past, and then they wouldn't even have to implement new quests.

I thought the same thing, every 3 months or so the hotzones just change, the hot zone quests also change accordingly, I think it'd work well.

It does boggle the mind how long they wait before changing hot zones. It's hard to believe it's much work at all to change the XP modifier for the zones selected to be "hot." Changing them even as often as 3 months would, IMO, provide a great boost for people to see zones that are new to them---or "fresh" since they haven't been there in ages---and a major incentive for existing advanced players to roll new toons just to level up in fun interesting zones that provide a motivationing XP bonus.

I do think since the last batch of hot zones were mostly all from the same expansion (The Serpent's Spine), if they continue this trend they're kinda limited with what sets of zones they can choose. That expansion was one of the few with zones suitable for every level from #1-up and there aren't many xpacs like that. I have a feeling the lack of similar options probably is one of the major reasons for the long delay in installing a new set of hot zones.

I was thinking that Kunark would be a great continent to draw a new set of hot zones but I notice looking at the hot zone history they've used Kunark a lot in the past. In fact, the very first set was all Kunark.

So the mystery lies in where from shall be drawn the next set of hot zones!

True, and the nice large outdoor zones in Kunark are good for hotzones as they could also support larger populations imo, I hope they at least pick Lake of Ill Omen for the lvl 20 hotzone, Dreadlands for the 40 hotzone and Karnors Castle for the 55 hotzone or Veksar for 60. But I hope they mix it up between expansions for the rest, like how it was done most times in the past.

I'd vote : Wall of Slaughter for the 65 Hotzone, Katta Castrum for the 75 hotzone ,Field of Scale 80, Old Bloodfields 85. Hopefully a couple 90 zones as the cap is now 100 and the population is dense between 90-100. I'd vote Erudin Burning and Lower Floors as 90 hotzones.

Yet there are so many other options available in the vast world of Norrath. Smiley: smile

It would be nice if they would throw in some bigger HZs, trying to get through BFR at level is a pain in the neck with how many people are in there. 3 groups on the bottom and 3 on 2nd floor make it a little tough to find room to solo if there is no one lfg =P

That and these HZs are getting pretty old after a year now =\

I would love to have CoB be the Hotzone for 90-100 players.

Totally this. His example of BFR, and also Vergalid, are some prime examples of zones that are too small for hot zones, IMO. Make em big, and have room for all who are interested.

In the current set, Direwind and Steppes aren't bad. Lots of room, lots of camps.

One weird thing though, with the current crop. Sunderock is the level 60 zone, and Steppes is the level 65. But from my experience, Steppes is an easier zone, especially for chars in that level range.

I have always wanted to see Old Sebilis as a hot zone.

According to this old list from eqmacwiki (below) and most other lists I've seen, Old Seb has a small ZEM (zone experience mod) bonus while Paludal is at the top of the list.

The average base ZEM for a zone is 75 on this scale : EDITED Jan 9 2014: *** The EQ Mac link disappeared after Al Kabor server closure.***Smiley: disappointed

Good luck.

Changing hot zones every day is a non-starter in my mind. Players get set up in a camp and accustomed to the pulling and fighting routine, they don't want to have to leave it a day later. But "rotating" once a month, say, works in my book.

Well, my last post for this thread....

Here's another good idea for the quests themselves... instead of 5 of a particular mob, make it any 20 mobs in the zone. One of the issues now, is that it might be a big zone, but everyone congregates where the daily quest mobs are. With this approach, people would be more willing to spread out.

But the last comment is short and sweet:

Looking at the title of the thread, I'm afraid the answer is "no" :(

Don't expect new hot zones until the summer, at the earliest. If you're asking 'why', think about what happens between now and the summer. You have the anniversary events (that for some reason always require some big convoluted quest series and raids) and Phase 2 of RoF (you didn't think the full expansion had been released, did you?). The dev team is only like five people nowadays (most of the better people have been moved to EQNext) so they don't have a lot to work with.
