Dread and Terror questionFollow

After many years I decided to get my warrior alt his Jagged Blade of War. I'm down to needing one drop, the ball of everliving golem that drops from Dread or Terror in Fear.

Up until this point the various locations in the quest were untouched, that is to say nothing was camped. But holy cow WHY are Dread and Terror STILL perma-camped? I've checked their loot here on ZAM and I don't see what the big deal is.

This isn't a complaint, I'm just curious.

Skelly illusion. All items casting illusions are always in big demand. Plus it's an insta-clicky. All insta-clickies always in demand.

Only item which allows non-enc non-bard to cast a charm. Has its uses on occasion...

Needed for necro epic.

Mobs are needed for 3 epics: war, sk & necro.

'Nuff said.

If they would remove the AoN from these mobs... the farming of fear would be greatly reduced.

Puppet Strings market was greatly reduced with the (bizarre) decision to make a shroud with charm.

Slime Blood sits in baz for huge plat and occasionally sells, but also pops up dirt cheap sometimes. SBoCT alone isn't worth farming fear repeatedly.

My preference would be having the epic drops from fear moved into Temple of Cazic Thule, even if this meant adding a couple of triggered by the class spawns for the meant-to-be more difficult parts (the chanter fear mob is not hard to kill... good luck finding it up). Then they could revamp Fear as a HARD level 100 raid zone. Why they've let the farmers own this zone for the past 8 years is beyond me.

All they would have to do is make this zone instanced.

True enough.

(been ages since I've seen Felicite post here).

Yeah, I agree, bring the real fear back to the Plane of Fear! Make it a level 100 raid zone, put some really uber raid loot into it and make it CHALLENGING in ways that nothing is in EQ anymore.

For example, bring back the sheer terror of Fear corpse runs by making it impossible to summon corpses created in PoFear... no graveyard, no guild lobby summoning. If you die in Fear you can't get your body rezzed other than by being rezzed IN Fear. I'd go even further and say if you die in Fear your gear remains on your corpse until you're rezzed (in Fear) but Sony would never have the guts to go that far.

Would be nice tho: make the loot really really top-notch but make the risk really really top-notch as well.

I killed them maybe a year ago on Drinal for the SK epic. I was 2 boxing, with my SK, beastlord and 2 mercs. Beastlord was kind enough to take the DT. I didn't have much trouble finding them up though. There are so many ways to get the skeleton illusion now that the AoN wasn't as in demand as it once was.

<shudder> Ugh, Fear raids in the early days. OMG, those failed runs, 1 dead armored raid, plus 4 naked corpses, dwindling force as people abandoned the effort. Finally, hours and hours of waiting... and complaining to the GM for a rescue. Those nights almost made be quit EQ when my toon was young...

Yeah, anyone who goes "way back" remembers with terror Fear raid wipeouts and recoveries. The key was to go into those raids with your game face on or be prepared for a long grueling recovery effort. I sincerely think one thing missing from the game today is RISK and that was a key part of the challenge---and yes the FUN (sometimes perversely)---of classic Everquest.

I was a raid leader for awhile in those days and like I said to guild members don't even zone into Fear if you weren't mentally prepared to lose all the gear on your toon if we couldn't recover after a wipeout. This never happened under my watch but it could have and we came close a few times. As a raid organizer I'd contrast those raids very favorably for sheer difficulty and pressure against ANY EQ raid introduced since those days.

My brother and I went into fear the other day. It was all up. 71 & 70 necros running a warrior and cleric merc.

We killed about 30 mobs and the irebland imp (heh that was fun).

Terror was up and aggroed through a wall before we had set up. I ate the deathtouch and then the merc cleric got dumb, once the merc tank ate the second deathtouch it was pointless. In hindsight my brother should have ate the touch or the merc tank if we could manipulate that since I have significantly more DPS at the moment.

So to the OP... I guess it depends on the server as far as catching them up. We weren't after a patch or anything, it was just sitting there.
