cultural mounts to rideFollow

#1 Jan 05 2006 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
What would EQ player say about having a mount that comes from thier own race. Could it be possible? I am not saying that we can't buy our mounts that we already have with us. I talking about raising this mount from an infant upto adulthood. Could we take quests to prove our worth of the mounts? Could the mount come to like or dislike us depending on how we treat it? What do you people think? I would really like to hear from ya?

I don't think it's a bad idea. Some type of evolving cultural specific mount. Not like the normal evolving items but race specific solo tasks that would increase the mounts run speed.

Still it's not a bad idea, some races would get a horse as standard but maybe different models.

you could make them quested, high faction rather than level based with it being more of a time and persistance effort rather than lvl 70's ganking the world.

make them slightly faster than the present fastest horse you can buy and give them the ability to cast levitation and maybe invis and see invis and you have a new epic quest in the making.

Humans: horse (differing depending on starting city inc Erudin)
High elf : horse (winged hooves, pretty looking bridlry)
Woodelf : Unicorn
Halfling : Wardog
Dwarf : Warboar
Gnome : Mechboar
Var Shar : Big Cat
Ikky : Scaled wolf
Troll : Bear
Ogre : Bull
Darkelf : Corrupt unicorn
Froglok : Pass, not got a clue.

Froglock can ride a giant fly. Which will constantly buzz and drive everyone crazy. When it is time to put the mount away, they can just eat it.

Frogloks can ride a barbeque spit :)

This is always the problem with unique, race-specific things. There's few "normal" mounts, so eventually you have races riding badgers or ocelots or ibexes just to be unique. I would have been just as happy to see small races mounting something that was an actual pony (stockier body, smaller, thicker neck), not a small horse. Likewise, to see large races on an actual Cyldesdale or other draft/war breed instead of a gigantic thoroughbred. Maybe you give a few races "unique" mounts such as frogloks and iksar, but I think a halfling or dwarg would be more like to trot around on a Shetland than on a wolf or pig.

Might be academic from a graphic implementaion point of view but I'm with joph.

Halflings, Dwarfs should ride ponies.
Ogres, Trolls, Barbarians, Vah Shir: Clydesdales or War Horses
Elves, Humans: Horses or maybe Drogs if they are evil.
Gnomes should only get Mechboars if they make them themselves (Tinkering > 100), otherwise ponies, or buy the boxed version of expansion #37.
Frogs? Nothing springs to mind...Let em ride drogs.
Iksar: drogs, they are all evil...

A few quested mounts based on faction would be good. Not race specific limited though. If I get enough Rivervale faction to get my iksar a little pony let me!

If Aviaks can't be a player race they would make great mounts. A wagon pulled by sarnaks would be cool too.

More likely to get same graphic mounts in new colours for 10X the plat. After all, who wouldn't pay 1000k for a lime green horse?

Iksars would ride Kunark rhinos, not scaled pups they are our warders.

Froglok would have to be a bridled troll...

Mounts with abilities makes sense too... wyverns or pegasus for lev mount (effect kicks in when falling). I like the epic mount idea, 1st stage gives you the odd mount then you complete tasks to get abilities & bonuses on that mount.

Heh...I think I would be satisfied simply with better graphics, so that the horses look more realistic.

Yeah...if there were dwarves of the type in EQ, and if they rode an equine at all, it would probably be a pony....but who is to say what type of pony? Would they ride a shetland type, or would they ride something more like a Welsh (section A.)or a conemara? Better yet, they would probably ride the animal that best suited thier needs.

As for a war horse, discoveries of things like horseshoes at recent archeological digs, and other information shows that the war horses of the middle ages were not huge. They averaged about 15 h.

Most of the drafts seen today are not anything like what was used in period. In any case, breeds of anything, horses, livestock in general, dogs whatever is a relatively modern thing of roughly the 19th century. Prior to that animals were bred on the abilities of the parents, not the looks of the animal.

Actually, if I were wishing they would do something with the mounts, it would be more to the affect of making the mounts more useable...as in, a warrior SHOULD be able to use a horse, and if they do, then it should up their stats and combat abilities appropriately as if they were fighting mounted. And if you want to go high end, then the horse should be doing some damage as well. All those fancy moves used by the lippizans are directly from cavlery manuvers....so the mount should do damage with kicks, stomps and bites.

I would prefer to see that kind of change over minor changes in what kind of animal what race rides. :)
