Returning and have a few questions about 2-boxingFollow

I've decided to return to EQ. I had moved to EQ2 when it came out, then to WoW after my free month was up. WoW is nice and all, but it still seems to be lacking somethign that EQ has.

Anyway, I'm not looking for the best soloer or server (already read up on the other posts).

I am thinking of starting from scratch and wanted to know if 2-boxing from the same PC was still possible (I figured this would be the best way to deal with the lack of a lower lvl population). If so, do you still need eqwindows (or whatever that program that allowed you to run eq more than once was called)?

Also, any suggestions on a decient duo setup? I'm not looking for the best possible combo. I'm not big on melee, so I am looking for a combo that wouldn't be gimped or to hard to 2-box.

it is definatley still possible. Easiest way is to set up two EQ directories and launch each one seperatly.

They made a change on the last patch to the way the mouse works...since that change, the game actually seems to work better without EQ Windows than with. You can switch to the other window while zoning with the first one...you could still use EQW, but it is no longer as necessary as before.

I personally don't use it.

As far as a gaming rig to use, I would suggest at least 1GB of ram and SATA harddrives..keep the system defragged, and get yourself a decent videocard.

.. hmmmm I know you are not big on mell but four of the best combos are a shammy/sk a shammy/ranger a shammy/monk or a druid/beastlord.

If you specificly want to avoid melle may I suggest maybe a shammy and Necro. With slow the necro pet can tank. Both classes can dot very well and you can even kite dot. Just a heads up though caster duoing is a little more awkward then the standard melee combo.

Really any caster duo would probably do well as all te pure casters (except clerics) are solid soloers.

GOod luck and if you have more questions please feel free to post.

You can just use the built in windowed mode in EQ to run multiples on one system, works just fine.

That said, the best overal combo for 2 boxing is probably sk/shaman or monk/shaman... sk/beastlord is pretty powerful as well, just harder to get started.

Anpther thought comes to mind about which combo you should choose.

If the caster is going to be your main I would play a sk/shammy as opposed to a druid/beast.

A shammy is more desired in groups. Groups that already have a healer will rarely take a druid unless it is a friend or nothing else is lfg. Groups that already have a slower will still take a shammy. Shammy buffs and dps are very desirable to groups even if he isnt the group slower. Unlike a druid, shammy buffs stack with cleric buffs. He also has more solo options and better manaregen.

If your main is going to be the melee then I would play the beastlord / druid. Simply put the beastlord is a strong soloer and the sk is not so on days when you do not feel like 2 boxing you can always find something to do on a beast where the sk is sublect to the whims of the /LFG.

I use wineq2 pro. It works flawlessly and I like the picture-in-picture feature.

I 2-box a shaman/necro atm but plan on 4-boxing a shaman/sk/cleric/necro soon. I just need to level up the cleric a bit.

Sorry to bring back an old thread....but I was curious about this. So to 2 box on the same computer...without using one of these 3rd party programs, I just make a copy of the entire Everquest directory, and create a seperate executable? I will have to give this a try since they made that patch.

And for my 2 coppers about a duo....I like my Chanter/Pally combo :)

... its easier then that. I 4 box on 1 computer and only have one everquest file so no u dont need to create seperate directories. The only reason to do so is if it puts a strain on your computer and you need graphic settigs lower on one toon then the other. Also many people do it for sound so they can get a better idea of what is happening based on the different sound settings.

also after the new patch you constantly have a free cursor so alot of the advantage to trhe 3rd party boxing mods is gone. I just alt+tab it.

So, after the patch it won't let me run windowed mode in higher resolution than 800 X 600 and lags like a ******. The game is unplayable with 2 characters on one computer for me, and I use to do it regularly. Patches suck.

:(

I know nothing about 2 boxing on one computer. But, I allways 2 box when I play, so, I'll put in my feelings about character selection. In my very humble opinion - I'm a long way from being an expert on the subject, but have been boxing for about 3 years now - the best combo would be whtever melee type you can deal with and a caster that can port and heal.

My favorite 2 are my hafling Druid and my hlf elf ranger. I know that both are the subject of many jokes - but my Ranger is set up to tank as is the Druid. (that was necessary when they were both little). Now that they are in thier 60's the Ranger can tank anything in the old world - can't handle the planes though - but makes a good back up melee in a planes group as he can pull snap agro when necessary and with AA's has decent mitagation.

The druid has very good heals for all levels as you go up and can get you out of binds that you may find yourself in from time to time. And even with the PoP books there are places that you want to go that require a port.

Like I said, just my 2 cp's worth - and probably not worth much more than that.

I currently use Wineq and am very happy with it I can 3 box without any problem once I get the character to the Camp. Auto follow doesn't work worth a damm 3 boxing.

Damage sheild is the bomb....lvled my nerco to 46 in less then 2 playing days with my 63 druid. Just need to do like one point of damage to get the exp from yellow/ reds ...not grouped I mean.

Best duo at 50 and under is melee and a healer imo.( tanked my nerco to 46 though lol..lots of DS and hp buffs and lots of healen P) After that things get harder/slower. You may want to think ahead to the 60 plus lvls and go with say a BL or nerco and maybe a druid or shammie. One melee and one healer most likely wont cut it post 60 unless you have a slower and and more dps...so umm get 3 accounts P.
