a guildmate told me to go to Abysmal Sea to get my alchemy skill up. I found the 2 alchemists there and spoke to both of them. One had me making vials of ink. I made so many that it's now trivial but when I speak to either one of them again, they don't give me any new keywords or things to do other than making vials of ink. Am I missing something? A keyword?
Just seeking the next step to progress forward in my alchemy training.

You need to hand the NPC 100 of the items it asked you to make before it gives you the next step. For a total of 400 successful combines to get your skill to (54).
It couldn't get any more vague. Thank goodness for Allakhazam.
It's boring and tedious. I find it is just easier to work up your skills to (54) the old fashioned way.
