Been looking at some of the pictures posted and some places are really beautiful.

Which one is visually your favorite?

People are there so often that they become numb to their surroundings, but I've always loved the sunset in the northern part of the PoK, as the last rays shine though the multi-colored leaves.

Other favorites; the coastline in Nedaria's Landing, the Halls of Honor, nearly anywhere in the Dawnshroud Peaks, the Jaggedpive Forest, the Stonebrunt Highlands, the Twilight Sea.

As far as cities go, PoK is quite beautiful, as I mentioned, but Katta Castellum wins my vote, hands down. I'm constantly amazed how many people have never even been there. It was a hotzone for a while (still not sure why), and I spent quite a bit of time in the cemetary at Katta, killing zombies. Not because it was great experience (it was tolerable) but because it was such a cool place.

Katta, that zone seems like it's from a different game. I wish they would give people a reason to go there. I also like Veksar, it really has a sunken city feeling, allot of kunark just seems to fit, like the developers really put allot of thought into it.

My old time favorite is a far away view of the entrance to Kaladim. I also like the Overthere with the huge iksar statues. Shadeweavers thicket is cool when the "earth" rises too.

When it comes to expansions kunark has always been my favriot. I think you hit the nail on the head about the developers effort. Not releasing an expansion every 3 mos and taking your time getting it right is a good thing!

I always judge an expansion not by the added features but by the xp zones. Kunark really has the best laid out xp zones IMO. Of the newest expansions OoW is the only one that has a nice feel to it.

... Totally agree. Prolly to late now but some of this wonderful old content is rotting. I know they spread oput the epic drops for 1.5 and 2.0 but we really need someone to come up with an idea that will drive alts and newbies away from the current xp superhighway and to more of the games content.

I agree on Katta. Whenever one of my toons gets there it feels like they are site-seeing through a historically rich city.

I think they did anice job on many of the Luclin zones though. I like the colors of Hollowshade Moor and the devoid atmosphere of Marus Seru.

I love Halls of Honor, Veksar, Emerald Jungle, Hollowshade Moore, Dawnshroud Peaks, Temple of Ssraeshza (look at the walls next time you go, pictures everywhere), Vex Thal, and Oasis of Marr (sunsets there were incredible, even in '99).

I still think that running off a mountain (with levitate.. heh) over the forests of Jaggedpine is one of the best views in the game.

I have always loved Sanctus Seru! Although my main can no longer go there my little ones can!
I was to be married there but VT put a stop to that so my second favoite would have to be Nedarias Landing at the waterfull!

I would say Plane of Time A, not that I have ever seen it in the actual game (thank you SOE for the insane planar progression crap!)

Anyways while playing the emulator I seen it though, really neat.

Plane of War would have been a fun zone if they had bothered to finish it.

Ruined City of Dranik is a cool zone. I really like the DoD zones it gives a nice feel of underwater caves and dark places.

I like Kunarks zones as well. Nedaria is one of my favorite zones during sunsets.

Plane of Mischief is a cool one I wish they would instance to keep both versions.

As for the PoP zones some of them were hurried and put together too quickly (this is in part to a couple of graphics/artits being fired/quit). Valor is a **** poor zone that was one of them. It was suppose to be a really cool zone. Plane of Time A is worthless. It's got a variety of scenery but it serves almost no purpose whatsoever.

Speaking of, am I the only one who wasn't overly impressed with many of the mob models from the last few expansions? The colors seem muddled and not as sharp as that of models from LoY, LDoN and PoP. For example the DoD werewolves don't impress me as much as the PoP ones did. If anything the cartoonish, WoW quality is a turn-off to me. The gargoyle shroud (may be a mob in DoD as well) doesn't hold a candle to the PoP/LDoN gargoyles. The dragorns, especially at close range, look like a muddle of color as if the model was painted in watercolors and then misted with a spray bottle. Likewise for the new orcs. The bizarre spikey spiders look worse than the original wood spiders, much less the exceptional PoP spider models.

Many of the new DoD mobs I've seen are nice: the mindflayer rip-off thingies, the pre-historic crab do-dads from DoD, the snakes are fantastic and should be the base snake model in the game like they changed bats & rats. But I fight mobs with crisp models like the LoY luggalds or the LDoN vampires and then see the mottled mess they call a faerie and wonder what happened.

Yeah I agree about the New models Jophiel. Back when The new models came out for the iksar it was a huge improvement. Now the mobs are looking more (dare i say it)warcraftesque(not a real word but it works). Those new textures all look the same too. We should go back to hte old days of the stick figure shapped bobbing models that'll be fun! hehe j/k

Graphics or content?

Personally I like DoN missions. Want a challenge? Try completing every group mission in DoN. It's not easy and has a variety of challenges.

I really enjoy the DOD expansion. Not the MMs but the spell missions, progression and zones. MMs are fun for a change and an interesting view and playstyle. But they can get boring rather quickly. I'm having lots of fun in the DoD missions. Using skill and everything we got as a group to complete or wipe and come back to try a different tactic. It's been one of the most challenging expansions for a long time.

I like a few places. There is a little faerie village in Lfay that seems magical with the audio set on.Spent alot of time in Katta and explored alot nice eery feeling to it.There is alot of little details alot of the kunark zones to make it appear as if an empire has risen and fallen.CC is nice beoucse of the all the little sparklies. But nothing beats a boat ride to fp while the suns setting.(SOE BRING BAK BOATS BRING BAK BOATS)as for models*shrug*first time i saw naggy i almost crapped meself(about 2 and a half yrs ago).o and wtf is phinny the wierdest and most unique looking mob pre.....i dunno pre pop maybe*shrug*everything else looked like a bigger version of something else(why the hell was bristlebane given a giant halfling graphic....) O and I have been to a few marriages right in fron of Thurgs ent with the waterfall for the backdrop.

Back in the day I had a POS computer and a dial up connection. As luck would have it, it was about the same time for me to hunt in Lagged....err, Jagged Pine forest. So like most I turned off the sky, far clip down as much as could stand and still see and went on hunting in a dark a dreay woods.

Then I got an new PC and cable. I dared to turn up my settings and brave JPF. WOW!! I was blown away. I always describe JPF as the most stunningly beautiful zone.

With all the graphic updates, obviously the newer zones are more visually appealing but my list includes places that were attractive to me in their day. Some zones I have not visted, particularly raid zones like Plane of Time, Dreadspire, Vex Thal etc.

Attractive "City Type" Places:
Katta Castellum - Epic size and scope.
South Qeynos - Really feels like an old fisherman's wharf
Shadow Haven - Specifically the temple side
Kael Drakkel - Really feels like a Giant city

Attractive "Indoor Type" places
Najena - The severed heads on spikes, the traps, the jail cells. Scared me.
Fungus Grove - Feels like a real cavern
The Hole - Has to be the most massive dungeon in EQ. Alot of variation.

Attractive "Outdoor Type" Zones
Jaggedpine Forest - A lush forest
Barindu, Hanging Gardens - Another scary place, a mix of old temples and alien like things
Stoneroot Falls - One word. Vertical.
Highpass Hold - Various buildings tucked away in alcoves
Western Karana - Ahhh, when Everquest meant exploring and getting lost
Temple of Marr - I like the old greek style

The Most Attractive Everquest Zone

Stillmoon Temple - Simply beautiful. The color and lighting is just perfect. The inner garden is spectacular.

These are off the top of my head and their are definately more.

With Lev on and running straight north from POD port into Dranik's Scar. Take a sharp left right before castle into NC and you'll get an amazing view of that area. Impresses me every time I see it.

When i played, GoD had just come out, but my favorite zones then were...

Nedarias Landing - still think i was the first one there after it opened on Quellious

Stonebrunt Mountains - the little village of cat folk there is lovely

Najena - would run around the zone non stop

Soloseks eye - in with the goblins, one of the funner zones i found with little to no people

Clan Runnyeye - the fungus from the moldmaster area really is creepy.
