The Number of GM EventsFollow

#77 Sep 07 2005 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
How does one find out about these events? I have heard of a few and even know the Library Champion (All hail Lessw!!) but have never knew of an event before I heard about it in PoK ooc's!

Maybe an announcement when you sign on?

Yup they're all volunteers, since last I heard.

Still, players are actually taking the responsibility for creating their own preferred experiences...

For instance:
~ interesting tangential discussion about players' ideas for funny quests: http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/board/message?board.id=TNZ&message.id=162829&no_redir=true

~ many guilds (ie, mine, 7th Hammer's Disturbed Remains ( http://www.disturbedremains.com/) sponsor their own events (games, quests, parties, races, competitions, etc). More personal than a GM event!! :D

jeeeeesis i just read all the posts on thatg player-created-quest-idea thing and wow. i think there is a wayto do some of them via out own EQ pocket and invention. e.g, the investiogation of a dead body. havea monk/SK/neco go FD and then get peeps to hail a dude next to the body. then the udde next to it says, 'Oh! look, (XXX) is dead! sumone help. Hello (XX) are you interested in helping our [dilemma]?'
the person hailing dosnt have to say dilemma, just 'WTF r u talking about'
then the person newt to corpse says 'this is a player created quest u goof, theres a reward and all so play along' and it would go on like that. and thats just ONE idea peeps! there would be scattered PC's in dangerouse levels or easy ones, demang#ding u go kill a (XXX) and bring them (XXX) or they will nto talk to u. u would say WTF gimme the clues u idiot and they would say nope. andf it would go on liek that. maybe there could also be a dwarf who wants u to drink with him too. as a little extra.

I have played EQ since spring '00. In all my time playing, I've only seen 2 GM events (of course, barring Halloween/Christmas and war events).

However, I must say that I did enjoy them thoroughly. One I saw took place in iceclad, where a bunch of dervishes just wanted to get drunk (was hilarious watchin high level peeps getting smeared trying to kill them, and then me and a buddy went up and just gave em alcohol and got a death shroud in the process).

The second I saw was in PoK where a woman wanted poison to kill her husband, and when I gave her a easy made poison I got a stack of fire emeralds in the process, not too shabby. But...2 events in 5 years (with time off...)...I would like to see more events. Especially ones that require some roleplay in there. It's not very fun when trying to figure out what's goin on and a power guild comes to whack em...or tries too.

[quote=Felicite]I have played 3-6 hours a night, 330+ days a year since November 2002.

Number of GM events I had *heard* about: maybe 4.

Number of GM events I have witnessed in any form: zero.

We get these?[/quote

I'd think such a cute DE would have more of a life then that.

Issue is actually knowing there happening GM's need to spam the server (yellow text) chnl .
One of the funnier ones i have seen was halfling diving .make a L1 assing and take a running jump off a cliff and try to hit the water !!!

Throw down an extra $30 for one month (minimum stay on the server)

So what is the total monthly cost of Legends,$30 or $30 plus the $15 or so the rest of us pay? Seems high either way but does sound fun.

$30 plus $15.

I don't much care what others spend their money on, but I can't justify it myself.

I got caught up in three GM events that all started around me before I could escape the zone or log out.
One was three GM's acting as mushrooms in Overthere beating up on the ppl in the zone. I was just sitting by myself on the north shore waiting for a boat to take me out of kunark, and one of the guyz came up and started whacking me for no reason. I ran away a little bit and got promptly killed by a roaming cactus. (Lost exp, no rez, time wasted running from cabilis). Immediately got jumped by some roaming goblins while naked running through the warslisk woods and killed exp loss again. Finally on third attempt made it back to body and finally caught boat to Norrath hours of wasted time later, and down on exp due to the two deaths. (Thx bunches mr. GM)
Next GM event was me in a Gnoll group in South Karana and the GM's breaking up my group, killing everybody, and causing a long naked CR run from Qeynos. Totally wasted tonz of time on a useless corpse run, (couple ppl from group were killed by the gnolls we had engaged so exp loss to them. GM didnt care and didnt rez nobody. yep appreciate that Mr. GM) Then say goodbye to the exp group we had going. Ppl were on waiting lists for a spire gnoll group back then.
Next GM event was in North Ro. Its ez to tell if its a GM event because the rest of the zone is normal except the 1 to three odd mobs doing zone-wide messaging and lame attempting to role-play something. Was in a bandit camp group and all of a sudden some odd mob shouts challenges to ppl of the zone and declares hes invincible and other BS. The mob proceeds to chase my group at the bandit camp and we are scattered to four winds. Other ppl from Freeport came running to fight him so he lost interest in us but we were all gone and there was no camp to hold at that point, so GM in effect cancelled any exp groups going on in the zone. We all split and I just camped for the night after making it to Freeport.
Geez, I couldnt imagine being on Legends server and seeing them all the time. I sincerely hope I never get caught up by one of them and their scrappy events ever again. In my opinion they are there to handle requests and resolve disputes and do other misc stuff that ppl ask them; Not hastle and kill ppl for the fun of it.
Every other GM event that I hear of that was going on, I was able to avoid or skip completely.

The GM events are cool in concept but in practivce they impacted epic quests etc.. I very much like the idea of GM events but they were brutally hard. A massive chaotic war sounds fun if we either have the ability to organize (most organizatoin efforts took hours and were not successful during the commons and feydark events)or would scale the mobs to parallel PCs. In other words blue con paladin NPC has same HPs/ac/atk as PCs and white con is a TOUGH fight but 1:1 doable if your careful and no outside intervention. The wars were too often PCs fighting NPCs with unslowable sow speed, 400/hit DEs that harm touched for 3k each running in groups of 4 with endless mana and 30k hps each... The idea of the events was skill at controlling the environmental variables in the chaos not fighting another superman. As it turned out, what should have been a nice alternative for players not in uber raid guilds to get a rare chance at some nice loot ended up as an uber guild event as only uber guilds had people with resists high enough and adequate HPs to keep NPCs occupied long enough to systematically do anything to them.... Dissappointed so far but will always welcome GM events if geared towards average players.

I saw one right after the mergers....

You had to make a level 1 half~thing and it was some stupid pathetic diving competition....I mean come on...Smiley: disappointed

I would much rather have like in the "Good~O'l~Days" when a GM could and most times would give you a special quest.

Speaking as a former Guide there are GM events scheduled for a few times a month, but theres 2 problems. 1. not enough gm/guides sign up to fill all the spots so the event isn't doable, 2. Not many people show up to make it interesting. 3. The prizes are prety crappy and not realy worth it. I was only a guide for a month or two, and I remember seeing quite a few events to sign up for, but I only attended 1 and only 8 players showed up and the prizes sucked.

I have seen the Halloween and Christmas events. I also have won gems from the riddle game. I have seen the newbie gnome event.

My hubby once won plat from an event where he was to try and find a hidden gm in the zone.

Another time he won a weight reduction bag for helping an npc find various items that were planted on the mobs in butcherblock. He had just asked me what this egg that droped from a goblin was for. I looked it up and saw no info on it. The npc began fretting over losing the egg so he found her and gave it to her. She kept asking for other items that he found by killing other mobs in the zone. He had fun doing it.

The most GM Events I have seen had to have been on the Luclin Server about a year before the merger seems they had an event weekly maybe it was just on weekends can't remember which days they had them. One night they invited a bunch of us to the arena and let us pick a race and class and they had to be the last one standing everyone was level 1 no buffs and newbie weapon.

Would it hurt them to do anything on us nightshifters schedule for once, instead of always catering to prime time. I esp like how they apologized about about the updates and patchs this week because the poor prime time players didnt get to play as much......... awwww now you know how we feel getting stuck with the patchs all the time etc

I was a low level character the last time I saw one. The zones get flooded with all the high levels and it was very hard for a low or mid level toon to compete. If they have them again they should try to separate them by levels !!
