I turned my inpsect off within the first few days of playing and haven't looked back since. Since I use the right mouse button to adjust the camera frequently it was very irritating to unintentionally inspect. If someone asks to inspect I say knock yerself out!

As for the message I put on mine....eh, I used to have one but switched comps and never thought of a witty phrase to put in there so it remains blank.

LOL, here's what I should type in there:

Personally, I don't like being inspected w/o being asked first. It's simply a matter of courtsey--would you walk up to someone in the grocery check out lane, grab their wrist, and start looking at their watch? Or go rifling through their purse?

I do those things all the time IRL! Is that wrong?? Hmm... maybe that's why I get slapped a lot... Smiley: wink2

But, seriously, folks, I have noticed over many years of gameplay that 95% of the time players who inspect without asking are kids. Usually males who quickly prove themselves to be rather obnoxious. A much smaller subset are people who have played a lot on Zek, where random inspecting is a requirement for survival. Inspectors who get pissed off when they discover a twinked toon---this might be a legacy from playing on Zek where, for example, at lower levels if you inspect a potential opponent and discover they're wearing a fungi tunic you've just potentially saved yourself a PVP death because a fungi at low levels is basically tantamount to an "un-dispellable" invulnerability buff. If you played on Zek you're also very sensitive to BEING inspected since oftentimes that was a prelude to a PVP attack. This was especially disconcerting in the days of long-ago when you had to med with your spellbook open and were essentially blind to being attacked.

Too bad Sony doesn't allow players to toggle off their ability to be inspected. This would have to be deactivated on Zek, of course.

I could have SWORN there was a command to turn off the message that you're being inspected. This way you avoid the spam yourself, without restricting others. I know there is a command to turn off your ability to inspect others. I always have this turned on, since I play 3rd person view, and would commonly inspect others unintentionally.

LOL, and a fond memory of the old days. In the original Bazaar, which was a total lag fest, if too many people inspected you at once, you would go LD! It was fairly well known at the time, and used liberally on some folks who liked to park themselves in an inconvenient spot :)

Like he said above /toggleinspect on or off.

But it only works to deny YOU the ability to inspect OTHERS. Useful, though, because accidentally opening the inspection window can happen a lot.

I'm very amused that, thirteen years later, there's still people who care about this Smiley: laugh

I'm amazed people care about others inspecting them. As long as I can turn off my ability to inspect others, that's all I care about. As far as I'm concerned, the feature doesn't exist :)

For years my inspect message said

"Why undress me with your eyes when you can use your hands?"

and it worked well.

Then I played other mind numbing games and I forgot why we thought it was rude to inspect others. I think it was rude for the same reason it was rude to sit between two people that were sitting and chatting (or walk over someone). Because back then, EQ was very immersive. Pretty sure we can't get that back.
