Anyone got any good ones?

I saw the old classic Geek Love poem in one today:
Quote:
roses are #FF0000
violets are #0000FF
all my base
are belong to you

My druid's current one is:

Quote:
At one with the beasts of the forests and the birds in the sky, I listen to their voices on the wind.
Alas, they're usually telling me to bugger off.

I've turned off my ability to inspect others long ago. It was very annoying to accidently inspect someone. Even more annoying when they got upset about it.

If I want to know what weapon or what item you have, I will ask you to link it to me.

Besides, most people are so happy when they get that new item/weapon that they link it without being ask.

Me too, after a forum here about how outraged it made people, actually compared on one to looking at them naked, still don't get it but turned it off. The same people probably link their magelo.

Yep I keep my inspect off, too. When it's 'on' I'm always inspecting myself while trying to loot. Smiley: blush

Same same reason I got mine off.

Mine is still blank but I sometimes try to think of or find something really cool to put in it for the ppl who inspect me, but never really spent much time on that =)

Go to 3rd person view (F9) and inspect yourself; you can insert a message in the window that pops up.

... Its actually very simple. You choose a camera angle so you can see yourself. Then inspect yourself. Then all you have to do is click on the middle area and start typing.

I leave mine on. I havnt seen anyone get upset about an inspect since the very low levels. I always do ask b4 I do it though.

Personally, I don't like being inspected w/o being asked first. It's simply a matter of courtsey--would you walk up to someone in the grocery check out lane, grab their wrist, and start looking at their watch? Or go rifling through their purse?

True, even if you asked nicely to go through my purse I'd say no, but in-game, Ihave no objections to inspection as long as I'm asked.

I notice unasked inspection at the lower levels. It's been a long, long time since I seriously played a new toon--I'm too in love w/my main--but the one I'm running now is plenty fun. Have her in Blackburrow and damned if everytime I turn around, someone isn't inspecting.

One player sourly asked if I bought plat b/c of my gear. I can appreciate the disdain for such things, however, before jumping to conclusions, might be better to ask if the char is an alt wearing hand-me-down/dropped gear. He seemed a little peeved when I explained my main is a 61 Beast and the twinkage was from various sources, but, I guess that's another can of worms. =)

I agree but I do believe that only rarely do I inspect intentionally and that is ONLY after having asked permission. But I do inspect accidentally all the time. It is a real nuisance and I was more than glad to know there was a toggle for it. I was always inspecting myself or someone else instead of looting. I think that's why I used to play only in first person view.

I have turned my inspection off more for reasons of playing the game then anything else. While in melee the last thing I want is an inspect of someone's toon which stops combat. But I agree that for the most part its polite not to inspect others. ON the other hand I've been told by people that you should inspect others and that they always do because they do not want to group with a toon who is going to get them killed.

Easy peasy, just ask. While I don't agree 100% w/that sentiment ( a level 65 warrior w/a rusty sword grouped in WoS is something Iwant to know about =)), I will say on the occasions I've asked and been asked, I've never had anyone say no, nor have I said no. It's the principle more than anything.

Hey zoo simple toggle command for you that I always use:

/toggleinspect off

/toggleinsepct on

I used to have accidental inspects while fighting or moving around until I found this command. Now if they could just toggle the looting I'd be happy.

I inspect and get inspected all the time. I NEVER get asked and get inspected atleast twice a day. I guess most people haven't seen a sword you can't buy, I get asked what it is just about as often. I don't mind at all if somebody, out of no where, walks up to me and inspects me without asking and I'm sure most of the people I know don't neither.

Edit: I didn't change everything =)

The solution is simple. Turn off the inspection message and you'll never know if they are doing it or not and it wont bother you.

I've been hearing this argument for 5+ years now. There are two basic ways of looking at inspections:

1. They are "riffling" through your underwear and otherwise invading your character's privacy.

2. They are just looking at stuff they'd be able to see if the game had a more "real" level of graphics.

I personally lean towards the second description simply because inspection does not allow you to see the stats on items, or look inside bags. Seems to me that just being able to see the names of items you are wearing (ie: all stuff that would be normally visible to anyone walking by) is not much different then being able to see what style of clothing someone is wearing.

But ultimately, it really doesn't matter. You are either bothered by it, or you aren't. What's amusing is that those most bothered by inspections are actually bothered by *the message*, not the inspection itself. If I just walk up next to you and stand there, you wont care. But if I inspect you, you'll get all pissy about it. Um... Turn off the message and as far as you are concerned, no one ever inspects you. Pretty simple solution...

Why does this matter? Again. Turn off the message, and you'll never be bothered by it. Personally, I'd much rather people just inspect if they want to and go about their business, then have to respond to every single person who wants to know what I'm wearing. You want to know? Look. Asking me if it's ok to look at me is silly IMO...

That has far less to do with rudness, and a lot more to do with experience playing the game. After you've gotten "stuck" in an inspection window for the umpteenth time while in combat, you'll eventually figure out how to turn it off so that you don't accidentally do it. Thus, people at higher levels will tend to not accidentally inspect people everytime they happen to click too near to where someone is. You're just likely running into more players who haven't learned how to do that yet.

And newer players tend to not know what different types of gear are as well. They are less likely to know about sites like this one, less likely to know what gear is available out there, and just generally more likely to pester people in game about gear information.

That advice is bit like don't go see a doctor and you'll never have to worry about whether you have a disease or not.

It's a matter of courtesy. You don't see it like that, I do. Fine w/me, it's your dime, enjoy it how you like.

As far accidental inspections, hardly. No dead mobs about and folks just strolling up and right clicking on me.

I don't care if they know the diff between my helm of Riddosan and Fell Blade helm--if they ask they're welcome to inspect or I'll gladly link it or both.

Getting back to the OP, all of my inspect box messages are quotes from songs or literature that sum up my character:

Bard: "'Cause the magic's in the music and the music's in me" (Loving Spoonful)
Cleric of Bertoxxolous: "Everybody knows that the plague is coming; everybody knows that it's moving fast" (Leonard Cohen)
Mage: "There are witches in the hills calling my name. Saying 'Come join us sister. Come kiss the flame'" (Cowboy Junkies)
Rogue: "Here comes Sukey Tawdry to contridict what I was saying. Everything she gets one way: she lays out upon her back." (line from The Beggar's Opera)

Never did come up with one I liked for my Shadowknight.

This is where you are wrong. Some players (me included) use right click to move the view around. I still use this and at first I constantly had accidental inspections until I learned how to turn it off.

Gbaji is right and I agree with his comments 100%.

"This is where you are wrong."

In every instance?

"Some players (me included) use right click to move the view around. I still use this and at first I constantly had accidental inspections until I learned how to turn it off."

That I did not know. I'll stand corrected on most instance then.

"Gbaji is right and I agree with his comments 100%."

peachy. =)

I really never got why people think inspecting is rude. I can kind of almost understand why people whine about it in pok, I mean, half the people who inspect me in pok are about to beg for plat, but still.

if I see a unique graphic, I am going to inspect you.

if I need to know your level of gear for any reason, I am going to inspect you.

if I *feel* like it, I am going to inspect you.

do you people get mad when someone notices that you're driving a red car irl?

I get mad if someone walks up and tries to pull down my collar to check the label.

Seeing the blouse and asking "is that a such and such" is one thing.

Would you get mad if someone walked up and pulled your collar down to check the label?

there's a difference. it's impossible to be inconvinced from someone inspecting you. I certainly wouldn't be offended if someone noticed that I was wearing an armani suit.

besides. the functionality to inspect is built in to the game. there's no way irl to quickly and painlessly tell everything someone is wearing.

It's like nametags. if I'm going to a function or working at a job irl where I am required to wear a nametag, I'm not going to be offended if someone reads it.

Not for long. As soon as I see that message I back up/move forward quick.

/shrug

You play it your way, I'll play it mine. If no one's loosing a xp for it, it's all good.

I should iterate, in Raid/important situations, I fully understand the need to inspect someone--as I stated earlier, a warrior tanking in WoS w/a rusty sword is something we all need to know about.
