CHA and selling questionFollow

#1 Mar 01 2004 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
First off I have a DE SK with a 61 CHA.

I was wandering around waiting for the LDoN adventure to start killing things just because they moved. Headed over the the magus to sell off some things and got my normal 4.2pp for an item.

Running around again found the same such item as before and went back to sell it, got hit by skunk stink (lowers cha -30) so my CHA is now 31. Sold my item for 4.7pp.

Am I missing something here? Should I try and lower my CHA to zero to get the best prices??

Your faction also plays a role in prices that NPCs pay. It's likely that your CHA was already so low that it has already bottomed out on it's effect on your prices, but the NPC that you found was on a different faction (one that you were higher to) so they paid you more.

I'd suggest to pick up a couple opal encrusted steins. They raise your CHA by 25 each. That will help out when buying and selling. I've got a pair on every character. Also try holding out your sales (if you can) until you get to a zone where you have better faction.

few things come into play when selling to NPC (not LDoN merchants as they are on different table)

1. raw CHA. 130 is cap for merchant.
2. race
3. god
4. faction

#2 at times is very fickle and does not always play the roll properly. example is the ogre in FP will not sell very well to Ogres from Oggok for some odd reason.

with 130CHA, max faction, same race, and same god, you will have the chance to get best price for selling and buying.

as the above poster mentioned if you find an NPC on your faction even with lower CHA you will get better price then one you are on a lower faction table with.

example you are a DE SK, if you go home and sell in your guild hall to the DE merchants behind the counter you will get a better price then if you go up to PoK and sell there.

simple reason, you should be on a better faction table(ally if you did red wine quest) vs PoK were you will be just smack in the middle of the faction table with everyone else. same CHA, race, etc, faction will play the bigger roll there.

Thanks for all the info.

Just FYI though, I was selling to the same merchant each time. Just thought it was very odd that my lower CHA got me a few more gp.

And I do keep a Kobold Jesters Crown on me for selling typically.

Didn't have it on in this instance however.

Just wanted to echo the other posters thoughts - buying a couple of steins will boost your char closer to 130. Steins are generally cheap at the bazaar - I think I paid between 15 pp and 25 for the couple I bought (prices vary). I noticed with one of my alts who had 65 char without steins that I went from about 3 plats to around 5 plats selling when equiped with steins for same items from vendors. The Steins will pay for themselves quickly.

Also different vendors in the same zone may pay different prices due to faction being different (not everyone is on the same page so to speak), and you may want to shop around to compare prices. Along the same lines, there are quests that will raise merchant faction (shadow haven for example)as well as just killing mobs that improve factions (like orcs near Freeport raising resident faction). DE need to build faction anyway to travel to many areas without being KOS (or get illusions), so why not get a double benefit.

104 CHA will get you best price at indiff or better faction. However, if a merchant is used too often they will become greedy and never give you best price. There are only a few merchants like this in EQ, most notable is one of the bazaar ones. Always keep a Peridot on you (you do this for your clerics anyway right?) to check prices, best price is 9pp,5gp,2sp,4cp If they offer you that for the peridot you know your getting best price.
