Since I can't login just thought of a question. One player last night mentioned Newbie Quests.

How do I go about getting one of them?

It depends what you are after, for your newbie armour, for instance, you need to talk to you guildmaster who will point you in the direction of your trainer (or search here under quests).

I dont know your race but this, was my newbie armour quests stuff

Truthbringers Stuff

Getting it all together was a great intro to the game, and omg was i chuffed when i got my last piece (and don't tell but i was still wearing all of it when i hit thirty, some of it lasted maybe even into my forties, but im just slow and stuborn)

Talk to your trainer where you started. Nine out of ten times that will get you started.

Just had a thought, yeah ouch.

Some of the quest containers seem to be broken at the moment - they are not combining. Not sure if this is all the containers or just some, and they may even have fixed in in yesterdays ****-up.

Just a warning that they may not be working as they should

Been doing the Halas newbie quests with my war on Morden Rasp and haven't had a problem so far. I think it's fixed now.

A good source for info on the newbie armor quests is on eqtraders.com (look under Quests). The armor you get is OK as far as quests go, but considering what one can buy in the bazaar for relatively little money the newbie armor isn't very good. You can probably raise some money and buy better armor in the amount of time it takes one to do all the newbie quests.

On the other hand the game is calle EverQUEST, not EverFARMFORMONEY, so if you like doing quests then I certainly would suggest you try them. Along the way you can often find other low end armor, off skeletons, orcs, gnolls, etc. If you are new to the game then you can think of this as a training ground. Keep your eyes open when you are at vendors in newbie areas - often you can find some of the items you need have been sold there by other players.

One can also make some basic armor using tailoring and smithing skills. The best source of information on tradeskill recipes is on eqtraders.com. A large sewing kit makes a decent container for carrying stuff (cost a little over 1p) and can be used to tailor some armor - cloth and tattered is fairly easy to make.

Some of the tradeskill items that you will find as a newbie can also be sold to other players for some good money. Spider silk has always been a good seller on any established server, although I suspect the demand could lesson somewhat because of the tradeskill quests that were just added in Abysmal Sea.

Thanks. Have just made to Level 10 Pal. and have the quest for armor if we ever get the last part of the conversation done. We get to my getting the kit and I keep blowing it on the receipe thing.

Did the note one and that was very easy. I just need to learn the conversation side better too. Playing SP all this time, I am not replying to others as I should. Will get used to it if anyone is still talking to me by that time.

Went into the forest and following a path to a bridge. Two other players were running back. Huh, I got killed by the guards there and now there is a guard at the beginning of the forest too strong for me and I didn't do anything. So that will have to wait.

Have been helping other newbies when I can. Now I have minor heal, how do I click on another player to make sure they are okay when fighting and heal them a bit?

Have 25P and such. I blew buying something and didn't get all my money back. Would prefer the better armor from merchant (all leather now) but need experience points and maybe I can sell the quest armor for something.

Now out there, the animals and such are ganging up on me sometimes when I target just one.

Have talked a friend into getting the game, think they are going to do it.

Oh, it is still a great game. The only other two games I ever stayed up into the early hours were Morrowind and M & M series.

Since I am being very wordy. How do I join a Guild? Say, the Hall of Truth, whatever. Who do I see or do I have to be a certain level?

Whatever you do don't buy armour from the NPC vendors. Their prices are quite silly compared to the bazaar. We all probably did it but I wish I'd had someone telling me not to (or that there had been a bazaar)

Not sure of your problem with the newbie armour. Perhaps we could help if you elaborated

For the quest bit, sometimes it takes a little finagling on the syntax to get the NPCs to pipe up. As I'm sure you've noticed, you use the bracketed text to get an idea of what to say:

An_NPC01 says "Gee, I sure wish I knew where I dropped my [sword]."
You say "Sword?"
You say "Which sword?"
You say "What sword?"
An_NPC01 says "I had a fine sword that I dropped when I was being [chased by orcs]"
You say "When were you chased by orcs?"
You say "Why were you chased by orcs?"
An_NPC01 says "I must have gotten lost off the path in Greater Faydark, because when I got near some tents, orcs came out and..."
etc etc

It's usually not that annoying, but sometimes you have to wonder.

Mobs sometimes loiter by zonelines if trained there. Wait a few and they'll typically path back to their spawn point. By the way, the forest you were in was the home of the dark elves. You can pass through it by staying off the trails and eventually reach a zone called Lavastorm Mountains, but the paths and bridge are well patrolled by your enemies.

Simply clicking on another PC should show your their HP bar, same as if you click on a monster.

Merchants rarely sell armor worth the cost as part of their general inventory. I didn't catch what server you're on, but if you're on an established server you can usually buy better armor for cheaper in the Bazaar. The server Morden Rasp doesn't have much of an economy yet (sort of shocking to enter the Bazaar and see 60 traders and only 1075 items for sale) so that might be the exception. Anyway, no use crying over spilt milk; just don't spend money on the merchant sold chain or plate armors which are obscenely overpriced.

Some mobs are social, in that if they see you attacking their friend, they'll jump in. Most humanoid mobs (orcs, goblins, etc) are like that as well as many animals. Sometimes a mob isn't social, but naturally wants to kill you anyway. In which case, if it wanders by you fighting, it might jump in just on its own free will. Examples:

(1) If you're fighting a giant spider and another spider walks by, it'll come to help its spider-buddy. If a lion comes by, it'll attack you just because it wants to eat you and doesn't care about the spiders you're killing.

(2) On the other hand, if you're fighting a lion and another lion comes by, the second lion will jump in to help its lion-buddy. Should a giant spider then come by, it'll continue to ignore you because spiders don't attack until they're provoked.

(3) Finally, if you're attacking a snake and another snake comes by, it'll ignore you because snakes care about no one but themselves. Of course, this doesn't preclude the lion from example #1 from coming by and taking a swat at you.

Learning which mobs do what is largely a matter of experimentation, but can really come in helpful in the long run. When you're fighting a mob and see another coming near, it's good to know if you can safely ignore it, brace for an extra battle or hopefully back away out of the range of the second mob. It can be worth it to take two or three free hits from Mob A if it means getting out of range of Mob B and avoiding a 2-on-1 battle.

It's a common newbie mistake to confuse NPC and PC guilds. PC guilds are organizations of players who share some common goals, be it raiding, tradeskills or just conversation and helping one another out casually. These are the guilds you see listed above players' heads such as <Order of the Blade> or somesuch. How you join is up to the people running the guild, but there's some other threads on it and I'd rather find one of them and link it than type it all out again Smiley: wink

NPC guilds are really just a place for you to get started with training and quests. If you're a human paladin of Mithanial Marr, you belong to the Knights of Truth. It's a good idea to stay in good standing (i.e. don't go killing NPC paladins for example) since this is your base of operations and you don't want to be killed when you go home to train your skills. As you travel, you may find other guilds partially accept you, for instance, a human warrior can train in both Freeport and Qeynos and an agnostic wizard can train at most wizard guilds across Norrath. However most temples won't train clerics or paladins from outside their order without you first proving allegiance, typically by killing hordes of monsters they're at war with.

The big exception to all this is the Plane of Knowledge. PoK has trainers of every class who'll train any schlub who walks in the door. So even if every paladin guild on the face of the earth hates you, you can always train in PoK.

Just to add to what Jophiel and Cobra already said, you will find that your newbie armor is all no drop. That means you can't sell it - sorry :(..

You either use it or destroy it, I still think you should check it out - its a great training ground.

Ohhh - and welcome to the Corpse Recoveries -- ohh nightmares in FP harbour, ohh and that cow in the tunnels

You guys are great! Well, guess I am with Marr. Will do the newbie armor quests unless I get bored with it, need experience and read under quests though for Clerics of Marr what I think might be the correct reply "What receipe components" Now who in regular conversation says 'components'. I will destroy the newbie armor when able to buy or find better stuff

I think there is a baazar in Freeport, West or East I think, down in this open hole. Will go there and check.

I wasn't fighting them in the forest, I just happened to walk into something, going along my merry way and I guess the computer decided I was one of the other two. Well, maybe the guard will wander off soon by the forest entrance. At least he is there and I can run out of the area for now.

Well, off I go again.

The bazaar in East Freeport is an NPC bazaar and just part of the local colour.

The bazaar that Jophiel and Cobra are talking about is a market place set up to allow players to buy and sell with one another.

It is located up on the moon, Luclin, and you need the Shadows of Luclin expansion to go there. You get there via one of the giant wizzard spires or a teleport from a druid or wizard. (Or a Plane of Knowlege book if tou have PoK.)
