dial-up acceleratorsFollow

Does anyone know if using an accelerator will affect Everquest? The settings for the accelerator mention video and animation degradation, but I am not sure if it will affect the game. Forgive my ignorance, but I am possibly the most computer-illiterate person on the planet.....I miss using my old abacus.

From what I know, dial-up accelerators do nothing more than pre-cache common webpages and would have no bearing on playing Everquest. Then again, I haven't been subjected to the tortures of dialup for years, and never bothered 'accelerating' when I did. As long as your PC can handle the video lag, a stable 56k connection should be fine for most situations except 30+ people raids.

Those accelerators compress everything on the fly, and throw out alot fo content along the way. They almost certanly would not work with everquest.

If DSL is not offered in your area and bandwidth is a huge issue, consider getting an ISDN second phone line. It is available in almost every area of the US, but will only provide 128K of bandwidth. Modem bonding is another alternative, but quite a few ISPs will not allow you to dial up a second connection (assuming you have 2 phone lines) using the same account. Most software based accelerator packages are not worth the money and are only designed to enhance web browser performance.

everything everyone above me said is true from what i've read about the accelerators.
if you are having connectivity problems in game i'll add a suggestion here.i to do not have broadband access, really sucks having it for 5 years and moving to the sticks war thar aint no such thang.i am so far off the main road even my dial up connection suffers.the best i have ever connected at since moving here is 30.2 but most of the time it is straight up 28.0 or 29.2.
in your eq file, find a file named "DataRate",there is only one entry here and default is 5.0.this is the packet size that is sent back and forth.people with very good connections can run this up to 9.0 which is the max, very poor connections can go as low as 3.0,which us where i set mine.just change the number, save it and log in.
this helped tremendously for me.my zones times were cut in half and i don't get a lot of packet loss anymore, therefore i don't lag out.still isn't ideal but it did wonders for me.
