to EQ. I saw the new expansion in the store and ended up sucked back in. So I'm starting from scratch again. What should I be? I assume the Cleric/Chanter/Tank is still a requirement but how has the game changed with the latest expansions and can you get groups with a different class and no guild to back you up?

The three classes you mention are still the mainstays.
However Beastlords are also highly desirable for groups as are Shaman, you would be sure of groups with either.
