when you charm an animal does it always stay charmed for the same amount of time as long as it is the same level or is there some randomness to it for example

if i charm a bear that cons white will every other whit con bear last the same time so i can keep track or do i need to watch them carefully

also is there something i can do to make charm last longer ( raise charisma or increase skill in that class of magic) or am i stuck with what i get?

You need to watch them carefully.

It is a random amount of time, with several different factors that influence the duration.

I speak of Chanter and Druid charms Bards and Necros may be different, I know not.

The level of the mob relative to you is a factor, as you already know from your comments.

The inherant magic resistance of the mob is a factor.

Some Enchanters firmly believe that the more times the same mob is recharmed, the more magic resistant it becomes. I am inclined to support this theory based on my experience.

It is also firmly believed by many that your Charisma is a factor in determining the duration, I'm not too sure about this. As I recall, the only clues that SOE have given is that charisma has some effect on how much the mob hates you after charm expires.

In my experience, the mob has always hated me for the maximum possible amount every time charm has expired, so, not too sure about that one either.

The only proven fact (as far as I am aware) is that of MR, if you debuff MR successfully you will usually get the charm to stick for its maximum duration - but not always.

There is also an unwritten law (or is that lore?), charm will always fail just at the most dangerous moment. Usually just as the second add arrives in camp, so that you have the angry ex pet and at least two of his friends beating on you at the same time.

Bard charm can break early, but since the 39+ charms are only a minute in duration, you see less "early breaks". I was ******** around in Dalnir recently and charming Mr. Kly and it kept breaking a couple ticks into it. Punk Smiley: wink

Speaking from a druids points of view.

1. White, yellow and red conning animals charm breaks the quickest.

2. Casting Glamour on animal before charming makes it last longer.

3. The higher level you are in relation to the animal makes it last longer (see 1)

4. Always snare your animal before charming (helps for when it breaks)

5. Never go afk if you have an animal charmed.

6. In the end, charm time is random. Even for the same animal. Sometimes the initial charm breaks right away and then on re-charming you have it last a very long time.

Most animals that con blue and are alot lower in level (meaning didn't just turn blue on last ding) will have charm last quite a long time. If you are a druid charming, you pretty much learn that charm breaks at any time and always have snare, glamour and charm spells loaded to re-charm quickly.

I have a chanter that i have been expirementing with granted only lvl 49.. I have been using charmed pets in LDON( kinnda of foolish but it does add a little spice to it) MR has alot of play to it however i notice the odd thing mana seems to be affected as well. Not sure though but even with the lvl 44 quest tash spell used when my mana was below 50 percent it was somewhat a challenge to get the mob recharmed or a very short duration... However i quit charming now because of the very large experience penalty that we incur for having a charmed pet...
