MP3 Player in EQFollow

I saw in another thread that Singdall attributed his going LD in EverQuest to his MP3 player. Is this something that is commonly known to cause frequent LDs? Recently I have been going LD at least once a night, and I usually have my in-game MP3 player going at the time. Last year at some point I also came to the same conclusion, but after I stopped using the MP3 player I still went LD as often as before, until the next patch. Then I was very stable...up until the December patches, I think. So, in my opinion it wasn't the MP3 player causing anything, but instead just the general stability of the EQ servers.

However, I would like to know what information is out there about this kind of thing, both as known issues and from personal experience. If this should have been on the Tech Support forum, I apologize, but I thought it was more appropriate here.

The mp3 player can contribute to going LD if you are low on ram or low on virtual memory/Hard drive space. Or if you have your sound card on the same IRQ as your video card, which while being a perfectly valid windows assignment, is not well liked by Everquest.

Thanks, Kaolian. I was vacillating between the two forums, and when I wrote the post I was intending it to be a more opinion type thing and then I got too much into the technical stuff. I apologize again.

But, in an effort to make it up, I am curious, for those of you who play music other than the default EQ music while playing the game, what do you do? Do you use the in-game MP3 player? Do you run another MP3 player in the background, or put a CD in the computer? Or even just turn on a stereo? This is kind of what I wanted to get at initially, but I lost track of my own idea.

I use the in-game MP3 player and have done so basically since they put it in. I have not had connection problems. Lucky I guess. I'm pretty sure I used the in-game CD player once or twice but then I just got a small sterio to put in the room until the mp3 player came along.

One, i think it has to do with my UI and some other fetures with my LAN and not much to do with the MP3 player and EQ per say, just that is what i think (only real connection without really digging deep) is a major cause of my 1 time a night LD.

if i do not use the ingame MP3 player and use my laptop to play music for me, then i can go a few days (as long as not in the baz) without a LD, but as soon as i fire up the ingame MP3 player i will have at least 1 LD in a few hours time. i very seldom will have more then 1 LD, but i am going to have one if i have my mp3 player up.

it is my end, not SoE side in this case.

I use the in-game MP3 player. Only ever had problems with one or two specific mp3 files which crashed the game, but removing them from the playlist stopped the problem completely.

Don't forget, however, that any Justin Timberlake or Enrique Iglesias MP3s are a breach of the EULA and will result in either an account ban, or total ridicule across Norrath Smiley: wink
