Some tips for meleeFollow

One question on nuking, if chanter has the mana (often due if we have bard or necro in group), I will cast Anarchy spell when mob is down to 40% or below - looking at the posts it looks like I could safely cast sooner? Appreciate any input on when to nuke to avoid pulling agro on chanter.

When exactly you can nuke depends on a lot of things. Had you mezzed the mob earlier? If so, that delays when you can nuke without aggo. Is your MT using proc weapons or not? If MT is a casting melee, have they done any casting? Its one of those things where you really have to work with the group a bit to get a sense of how well the MT keeps aggro.

On the flipside of that though is the question: Do you really WANT to nuke more than once? I don't know how many times I've been in a group with nuke-happy casters and ended up wiped because when the **** hit the fan, the casters went oom fast. They hadn't kept mana in reserve for emergencies.

My personal opinion is that for Cleric and Chanter, I'd rather seem them as close to FM as possible at all times, never going below about 50%-60% mana except in emergencies.

Even with a cleric in the group, I still like to see secondary healing classes (druids/shamans) always keep at least 25-50% mana in reserve for emergency healing. It may seem silly when you've been in the same camp single pulling for two hours without breaking a sweat but, crap happens and you never know when you'll have a pile of mobs descending on you unannouced.

A question on mob placement in regards to having a rogue in the group. Does the puller need to "place" the mob for the rogue? I've tried doing it, but you rogues are always moving around, looting stuff, sneaking / hiding, etc.

In something like LDoN it is nice if the MA can turn the mob. This is not just for rogues but for all dps who will be attacking from the back. If the dungeon is at all tight having a gaggle of melee trying to get past the mob is untidy and they may back off further into the dungeon and pull adds. If the MA knows that they are the furthest in then that risk is eliminated.

All rogues really want is one person with solid aggro to be opposite. The "dancing around" is usually trying to stay in a stabbing position on a mob that is ping-ponging between competing tanks.

If mobs are continually backed into walls then yes you really want to turn them a bit or you are losing rogue dps.

In either case position the mob so there is room at it's back and let the rogue position themselves. Don't try and move the mob to the rogue. Then even if they have been looting or scouting or whatever they can join the fight.

Nice Tips:
But what about for those that blast, casters and druids and even shamans and clerics, dont blast target or DOT target then immediately sit down. This creates a problem for the MA in a group situation. Slowers same thing, that spell creates alot of aggro, please for dont cast it and then sit down, wait a bit, it will keep you from getting hit. Also, if you are a caster or priest class and you have a weapon with a heck of a proc, please remember that due to taunt nerf, it is very hard for tanks to get that taunt to work, so if you are getting hit after that big proc early in the fight, please dont yell at the tank. Just do what tanks do and silently curse SONY. Final thing, Paladins should continue to thank their gods for stun, without it, there would be alot of messy fights.

Thanks for your response Rhodan - I agree with you on wanting to have CLC healer as close to full mana as possible, I only cast a nuke with clc if 2 in group and we are alternating or if mob is healing itself and tanks have it down to the point where a nuke will kill it and i am over 80% under the theory that it will save mana from having to keep healing. I was really refering to the chanter who is often close to full mana if we have a good puller. I have had LDONs where we never got anything but a single pull and even when slowing or debuffing was FM most of the time - at 40% in the mid 30s that means that I will usually kill the mob with that spell. On the flip side, if someone messes up pulls and gets swarmed, the problem is often not mana for mezs/heals but time enough to cast. Died 3 times with clc last night, twice when casters sent pets or cast spells while monk was FD to break up group and once when one feared a mob who went and got friends. With nothing better to do while watching "Wait ... Loading" screen, I counted the mobs around my corpse, 9 one time and 7 the next. The really sad thing is that we did another adv with the same puller and different group and got nothing but single pulls. BTW the last death was after a complete heal where I got 2 and tanks couldnt pull them off quick enough which goes with the job in my book.

One quick note for you rogues, do not put sneak into your evade hotkey, only hide. Unlike hide sneak does not toggle off when you attack, and if things go south you may find yourself running to the zone at a snails pace. Smiley: smile
