Trouble signing inFollow

I double click to start eq, it runs the patcher and then my pc freezes up, not sure what's wrong any help? What happens is the patcher scans for updates than i click play and have tried auto-play, but as soon as it starts the patcher disappears an my windows locks up. I'm using windows xp home an I've never had this problem until today.
