new Server ideaFollow

Everquest, relive the story.
I don't know about you all but sometimes when I sit in Plane of Tactics pulling guys that hit for 475 I wonder to myself, 'what the happened to the good ole days?' So here's the new server idea:

The storyline is reset. The server starts off as being an old world only server. There are no new expansions, no Kunark, nothing past the original release- there is only the old Norrath. Firona Vie hasn't been kidnapped, the Icebreaker hasn't been created, and we haven't shot a cat to the moon. As people progress in levels they will defeat Nagafen, Vox, old Cazic, and learn about Bayle's corruption. When they defeat certain encounters, the storyline progresses. As an example once old Innoruuk, Cazic, Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox have been defeated, then Firona Vie becomes kidnapped and Kunark is available to explore.

Once Kunark is opened people can then advance to level 60, complete their epic quests, and find Firona Vie. After they defeat certain figures key to the kunark storyline (not necessarily every head boss of every zone) the story progresses and the gnomes create the Icebreaker and discover Velious.

Everquest has had an amazing storyline and at this point it's turning into the end of the world (literally). This would allow people to be able to experience the old zones and adventures without the latest expansions messing with the mix.

From the Verant point of view this would do a few things- entice older nostalgic players into becoming more active in Everquest and show how the game has been constantly added on from the existing product which will encourage them to purchase Everquest 2 when it is ready. I know it would do this for me at least.

If you would be interested in this sort of thing please email Verant at eqfeedback@soe.sony.com saying you would be interested in playing on a Everquest Classic Server.

Also when you send out this email please copy me at eq_classic_server@hotmail.com so I can keep record of all the positive responses.

good concept but a few flaws to think about:

1. ok so a year from now and you have Kunark, and SoV added to the server, so i join at this point in time, but i want my shared bank slot, my loy maps, my LDoN adventure points and items...???

2. i transfer from an other server with my epic before Kunark is open?

3. after 2 yrs or so you are back to the same thing you have now.

4. no bazaar, this means back to the bulls*it days of /auction for hours just to find something that may or may not be what you want, and no linking of items.

5. no custom UI

6. no focus effect items

to be blunt, most newbies would not use this server, and a lot of old timmers would not go back to a lot of the old ways. I for one will not go back to the classic default UI, i am to addicted to my LoY maps, and enjoy the shared bank slot very much.

even on my low level toons, some of witch i dont twink some i do, the maps, the bank slots, then UI are all very nice to have as i already know the 1-30 game better then most players out there. this is not saying this is a horrible idea, i think it is a novel one, but i also thing SoE would reject it from a lack of participation standpoint.

a better PvP server would draw more ppl IMHO then something going back to only classic EQ for Xmonths then adding in the expansions every so often.

also keeping in mind no BL alowed or the new combat system is gone, that is a HUGE code issue that needs to be delt with. with the instalation of the new combat system ALL 'zing' type spells/effects have been removed. in classic EQ you have to now creat a server with none of the combat system, and reinstall all of the spells/effects of this nature. so now you are supporting 2 different codes instead of 1 set of code.

lots of technical reasons why i dont think this would fly.

I am with Singdall 100% on this one. Before LOY I was always lost! And finding by nOOb corpses so I could loot my pitiful weapon, food & water, and apprentice robe, when I could barely figure out where town was Smiley: confused. It took me forever to get to level 10 (I would get annoyed and not play for days or weeks-not even sure why I kept playing-it was close). And later all my equipment was awful because nobody ever sold stuff I could afford, for my class, and I hated looking through all those bags, and asking the price of every item. Now in bazaar you can get nOOb gear for very cheap, you can start with the sale of a stack of spiderling silks. My first toon has still not caught up with the one I started after Luclin, and really enjoyed that one.

Id settle for a fuggin server that has an appropriate populace, and not overburdened by 10 guilds competing for the same damn mobs 24/7.

How would it consider adjustments made through patches? Like would you be able to drop money on the ground again? Would it also have the same bugs and problems of original EQ?

Also, people would get to the expansions too fast I would imagine. Look how long it took for Stromm to beat Time. Not that long at all for a brand new server. People play a lot harder and know a lot more things about EverQuest than they did in the original days, nobody would have to figure out how you get into ToV, because it has already been figured out, everyone would know the right hunting spots in the that continent. It would just be too fast. I agree with Singdall above on all items of debate, but if this server was ever implemented, expansions would need to come out at planned dates, it would be too fast any other way unfortunately.

one more food for thought...

is SoE then going to repay me for the money i spent on those expansions if i play on this server as i will have no access to them.

that also means no epic item as well.

ehh yeah bugs. but hey that means bards and necs would get all their power back too for kiting, and dervs in N and Sro would start dropping brass again in a 'common drop' fassion.

so some things could be good like if you LD you can log back in under 30secs you start right back were you were as if nothing happened. no loss of pet, no loss of summoned items(although this part is fixed) this also means no more 1018 errors.

so those would be good things.

no frogs as a playable race, no cats as playable races either. trolls get their town back and can move out of neriak.

Guk once again becomes the #1 hunting place from teens -50th.

no more kunark gimp players that dont know how to dungeon crawl and dont know their class.

fear, charm, and many other pvp nerfs would go away, and necs and chanters again would rule in pvp.

removed the nerf on level of spell effects as all spells cap at level 50. dont have a level restriction on naggy again.

so yes lots of things that have changed over the YEARS would/could go back to the classic style of play. some are good, some are not so good.

it would also means more SG in all three of the desert zones from Nro-Sro, but no more Cazel until Kunark release. that would be a great thing to see 5-10 SGs again in oasis or 2-5 in Nro and Sro.

RM remains a KS heaven due to quadding druids training ppl for the phat plat drops off the HG.

and many many more.

Think about it though... If you kept the new UI and all the bugs are fixed (because sony spent the time to fix them, they should stay)... kept the noob armor... froglocks can keep their zone.... iksars and vah shir could be "unlockable" races... and kunark would be earned from the death of Vox, Nagy, Cazic and Innoruuk.... shoot maybe even replace that with some sort of quest event that begins the captuing of Firiona Vie by some "lizard men" (Iksar)... everquest has an elaborate storyline behind it.. if anyone planned on reading it. The game would be epic like.. truly an amazing game, if they paid more attention to the storyline and less attention to the power gamer's content. This server would be directed towards roleplayers or nastalgic players... with the recent release of the Lord of the Rings movies.. many players want to start off on a grand epic-scale adventure and this storyline feature would most likely resemble it.
