What is THE most powerful SOLO class in all of Everquest??
Please help me here. And especially at high lvl's? I've always loved soloing and want to make a new character and solo from lvl 1-65. Which classes can do that and which are the best? And which are the best between 60-65. I heared enchanters are the best at soloing somewhere, but I didnt think enchanters could even solo?

A lot of people have different opinions of which is the best solo class. The things that you want to take into consideration are damage output and ability to buff/heal yourself. All classes excel in different areas. You want a class that can heal in some manner or at least buff yourself enough to where you can stay alive without having to rely on a cleric. I.E. a warrior can do a lot of damage and can take a lot of hits, but there is a lot of downtime when your hitpoints get low. Traditionaly classes like the Shaman and Druid are good because they can kite(cast and run) mobs around, dealing damage while not taking any. They can also go toe-to-toe with a mob if they have too and can also heal themselves.
Those classes with pets (Mages, Shamans, Necros, Beastlords) can have the pet tank while they blast away and meditate.
A lot just depends on your play style. If you like to mix in a little toe-to-toe play a Shaman, Beastlord or a Druid they level pretty fast, though I believe that a Druid can out solo a Shaman (just my opinion).
If you have a disdain for sharp pointy weapons, play a Necro or a Mage. They both can level up pretty fast once you get the hang of things.

Beastlords are good or so I hear. They have pets, can tank a bit and have some decent spells (sorry don't know much about BL's, haven't played one)

Over all, I would say that playing a Druid, Beastlord or a Necro would be your best bet.

If there was a 'most powerful' class of any kind, everyone would play it and you can imagine how fun that would be. (I can root and dot! Really? So can I.) Smiley: snore

Anyway, I feel any class can solo. But there are those that should and those that should not. Example would be a Monk or Rogue. They can solo but they are best 'suited' to be joined with a tank of some sort so that they can do what they are designed to do (Rogue = backstab).

Druids and necromancers used to be the considered the best for soloing. Beastlords were added to the list of solo capable classes cause of their pet and ability to heal it. Mages are considered by many to be an effective solo class for the same reason as a beastlord. Shamans IMO are underrated as far as their ability to solo. Clerics can solo undead VERY well. Paladins and Shadow Knights also have great ability to solo (Pally can heal him/her self, SKs have pets and life taps). Bards are incredible soloist (no pun intended). They can slow mobs, speed their movement and Area Effect damage the mobs that are following. (Aggro everything and run in circles until they die). Question really is, What do you want to do?

I agree with the overall opinion of Visagoth but in the same respect, you have ALOT of options. Just chose the one that best suits your style. Like nature? Pick a druid/Ranger. Like Death? Pick a Necro/SK. Like putting ice packs on your fingers? Play a bard. Smiley: bowdown

I know there are those that disagree but that's why they call it 'opinion'. Smiley: twocents

As a chanter I never learned to charm solo till I was 58. I think you could do much sooner if you are twinked and SoW'd with out much issue.

I learned in PoN.

This is NOT for the timid, or anyone with a short attention span, or who like to chat. That charm can and will break at any given second.

Chanters have no healing but with run 3 I just out ran mobs far enough to recharm. I still use my level 4 root as it has very low mana cost, has a fast cast time, and I don't have to wiat long for it to break and get my pet back intop fighting mode.

There is no need to heal your pet, when it is low, invis, mezz, go get a new pet.

I have seen where people dont even slow the target mob they just get as much dmaamge to thier pet as possible so it is easier to kill when the time comes.

If you attmept to play a chanter as a low powered mage, you can thru heavy use of your str/rune spells. I did alot of that in my low 50's in DSP aginst the rock guys. Just don't expect it to go as fast as a mage.

IMO soloing is very situational. If you want a short answer, I'd have to say that nothing impresses me more than a bard that's swarm kiting 20 or so mobs in tier 2/3/4 planes.

"But there are those that should and those that should not. Example would be a Monk or Rogue. They can solo but they are best 'suited' to be joined with a tank of some sort so that they can do what they are designed to do"

Bleh, I don't agree.

I dinged 53 last night, and it was mostly solo work.

Of course, I've been playing EQ for 4.5 years and have a lot of uber gear including a fungi to heal myself, but monks get a 25% heal every 6 minutes plus feign death... and damage output rivals a lot of other melee classes (your mileage will vary depending on gear, stats, etc).

Grab a SOW potion from the bazaar, a gauze press to make yourself some bandages, and (literally) kick some butt.

But Stefin *was* right: "that's why they call it 'opinion'." heheh.

My vote goes with Bard for the best solo class. Their ability to kite several high level mobs at once is truely remarkable.

Warrior says: So..lo?

I'd have to go with the set of druid, necro or bard. I've seen those classes do some pretty tough jobs in my years.

Depends on the mob, zone, and enviroment.

An indoor zone? You WILL NOT see a bard soloing there usually. Sure we get an indoor selo's song but that is like IRL going form walking to jogging, not much difference.
I've heard that druids, Enchanters and one other class can solo Trakanon.
Got a zone with a lot of trees? Probably not gonna see too many people kiting there.
Personally today I was in Rathe and NOBODY else was there. I am on the test server and the server dropped for one of its hourly(j/k) updates. I had just about every single giant in the zone following me. OMG it was so fun. But you know what even when charming, dotting it took forever to do it. Now take a Wiz and KEI and SOW him and send him out there., 2 nukes and that the giant could die. Aggro many giants and run in a circle until the giants are all in one small mass and AOE nuke them. Same amount of giants the bard killed but probably 10X faster.
So like I said. it depends on the zone, mb and other factors.

BARD ARE THE BEST SOLO CLASS IN THE GAME!!!!! AND THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY!!!

here are just a few

1. THEY CAN MOVE WHILE THEY FRICKEN CAST!!!!!!! bastages
2. They are not dependent on MANA for the most part and the few spells that do use mana can be solved with mental clarity AA ablitiy.
3. two words!!!! Plate Armor!!!
4. More natrual hit points
5. They have a song for just about everything. Which can be used in many situations
6. another two words... SWARM KITING
7. they can stack 5 dots at a time (at level 65)
8. Bards get safe fall, pick lock, forage, track, sence traps (max skill is low but still there)
9. I cant stress the importance of them being able to run while casting... THAT IS THE BARRIER between all other solo classes.

The day i see a necro kill 50 mobs in HoH in under 30 minutes with out loosing a hitpoint will be the day my ranger survives a raid with out dying at least once =P.

I play the sacrifice ranger when our one and only competent monk feels like not showing up. I split pull just as good as a monk exept i can at least snare the dam mob before my RD real death. (instead of FD)

But i am dam proud to say that i (a ranger) pulled Vindi with only geting two adds. AND I SURVIED. Our main tank manage to stick an arrow in his **** as i ran my ranger **** back to the raid (its actually a longer run when your being chased by 3 huge giants =P). lol Flame lick was a good friend to me durning that raid because thats how i kept agro on the two adds as i kited them around. I actually did about 2k damage to vindi shooting arrows into him ever time i swung around. I actually survived though. That is my only survival story though =P.

BARDS OWN and your wrong if you say other wize.

My guess at the order in which the might go is something like this

#1. BARDS!!! SONG BIRDS (they are also the hardest to play well!)
2. Necro
3. Shaman
4. Beastlord
5. Druid/enchanter
6. mage/wizard
7. ranger!!! (lol not really)

FYI, they make coffee in decaf now

Bards can solo indoors, but it usually involves Run3, charming and liberal use of Fading Memories Smiley: wink

To clarify, the druid that soloed Trak was in Time gear and had 500 AAs. She devised a pretty ingenious strategy and maximized her chances in every possible way. She still died numerous times refining her execution until she finally succeeded.

So, yes, it can be done, but it's hardly a casual undertaking.

In answer to the original poster, I'd say beast lord at low to mid levels, necro otherwise. Druids are pretty efficient soloers, as are shamans, wizards, mages and bards.

I'm glad you got the answers you were looking for Anonymous, but we're not done yet. I agree that bards, if played right, are the best solo class hands down. Necros and druids are right up there too. But as a ranger, I have to say that it's not very difficult to solo if you know the right place to do it.

Two words for ya: Panic Animal

This spell is a melee's best friend, and as long as you can find animals in your lvl range, you can solo with ease. Also, since rangers can snare/root, dot, and have the best archery skills, dont count us out of the running as long as we are outdoors.

I'm not saying that rangers are in any way better than other classes, just using my limited gameplay experience to give you some different options. Don't assume that just because your a bard, you can solo that random_animal_mob better than me. And if you're playing on my server (Vallon Zek), I might just put a few arrows in ya while I'm at it =).

I've solo'd the majority of 300 aa's in PoV and HoH. I earn about 40 minutes an aa if the stars align perfectly and my internet connection stays true. I've heard that elemental xp is better than that, but I can always get a group with myself in HoH =P. I couldn't outsolo anyone until I started charming in the planes, and I died a LOT due to charm breaks.

Also, life isn't too rosy for low level soloing chanters, but I hear it's doable. It certainly wasn't doable for me =(.

Nothing exceptional about my gear. Not elemental flagged. I've seen a lot of other chanters matching this rate, so it's nothing special about me =P.

I've heard that some bards can solo that well, but bards are good at making up stories. Besides, I always seem to see them running in circles... It's hard to take a class seriously when that's a bonafied strategy.
