Stratholme was once the northernmost city of the kingdom of Lordaeron and the Order of the Silver Hand was founded here.

Now, however, Stratholme has become a city of dark magic, having been ravaged by the mad Prince Arthas in the Third War. Once the city was razed, the undead took over the smoldering ruins, waylaying and slaughtering any that happen across their path.

Now, only undead and necromancers can be found here, along with the spirits of the long dead Stratholme citizenry. Overhead, gargoyles and frost wyrms can be seen patrolling the sky through the orange mist that seems to ooze from the buildings. This mist further corrupts and poisons all living creatures who spend too much time here, painfully converting them into servants of the Scourge.

There are two "sides" in the zone and have been in place since the initial razing of the city.

80 warlock in mostly level 200-213 crafted gear and blues. Affliction Spec with a Voidwalker or Succubus pet.

I am looting anything I kill so a run typically takes about 30 minutes or so. using the backdoor and heading to Baron.

Right now I have run this instance about 20 times. The loot is typically very good. 3-4 greens, 7-9 blues, runecloth, silver, grey gear, all add up. Its not the most profitable thing and I will stop once I am exhalted with Argent dawn but I am enjoying the zone and its lore.

A typical run yields:

10-15 large brillant shards - Darrowmere server AH currently stinks for these and the sell for about 1 gold apiece.

Runecloth (20) - 6 gold a stack at the moment. 3-4 full stacks per 30 minute run.

Illusion dust - 15-20 at 1 gold apiece.

Greater Eternal essence - typically 2-3 per run from disenchanting blues. 10 gold a piece

Silver and greys - keep the two handed greys, plate armor, heavy stuff. Can get 1.3 gold per two handed blade. Maybe 5 gold per run

So approx 60-80 gold per run, disenchanting everything and selling the greys. I only need about 6-7 more runs before I become revered. I will keep my fingers crossed for the mount but am not holding my breath.

Im running Stratholme twice a day atm trying for Baron's mount and iv noticed a glitch that has happened to me twice.. i hit the forums and 2 people suggested this and yep it seemed to be the problem i was having: When you enter The Slaughter Square with the Abominations u have to clear before Ramstein comes out.. every 2mins or so an abomination will start heading towards the Square's gates, they dont walk out but it seems if a few get to the gates and walk back it can glitch the whole thing and iv had these 2 situations happen: more and more abominations spawn and u are having to clear them 2-3 times OR (and this is worse) suddenly they all vanish mid-fight.. Ramstein doesnt appear, Slaughter House doors never open and u cant get to Baron Rivendare =( Last few times iv made very sure that no abominations get anywhere near those gates and i've had no problems.

I ran a couple of my guildies through Strath last night and during the run I recalled that same exit/entrance in the same area as the final boss. Once we finished off the last boss, I decided to pop on over to the area and see, and it still remains gated and inaccessible. This swirling egress has me quite vexed as well. I would love to know what or where this goes too (assuming it even goes to anywhere at all.) I just love finding unfinished areas.

I took my 77 rogue in just for fun and made it through most of it. Took down a few bosses and cleared the live side. Then I had a little problem. I went through a gate and a ton a plagued roaches came at me. I popped vanish, but they saw me and chewed on me. I went through a pot before I was killed, not by the roaches but by about 20 undead who finished me off. I hate not having any kind of AOE attack. I'll be bringing my DK in next to see what he can really do.

It is so hard to get a group for this place. I don't know why, the quests are good, the secenery is great, it is full of Warcraft lore from the past, helps further your rep with the Argeant Dawn and simplify your path to attuning to Naxxramas and the drops to be found here and in Scholomance are great. My friend ran it a month ago and said it was the most fun and challenging 5-man dungeon he'd ever been in.

What gives?

Level 59 Undead Warrior

I like messing around in these older instances at times, perhaps because I never played pre-BC, but regardless, they are fun.
Being somewhat of a lone wolf, I like to see what I can do by myself before I call for help. I had cleared Scholomance easily enough, but Strat is way harder solo, as a 70 hunter anyways. That damn disease those zombie guys cast is a real pain. Anyways, having never been there before and no real clue as to where to go, I wandered in, slowly cleared my way to the Scarlet Crusade side, and then noticed an elite boss that had spawned, Timmy.
He hits pretty damn hard, even though he was only 58. I went at him thinking I'd blow him away pretty quickly, only to find out that Illidan really does speak the truth (you are unprepared). I'll try it again soon, as I ran out of pet food and need to stock up on purification potions next time.

I am a level 70 resto shaman.

I killed all the first undead bosses and towers and then went to Ramstein's room.

After killing all of the guys in the Slaughter Square nothing happened. The gates all remained locked and Ramstein didn't come out.

Does anybody know if there is a bug where it won't let you finish if you are not in a group?

This sort of happened once before to me when I killed the last boss in Uldaman too fast while running some lowbies through .. it wouldnt open the vault door or the door i came in.

I believe there is a timer of sorts here as I experienced the same issue. However I went afk for 5mins and came back as the doors opened and 4-5 Undead walked out the door, wandered around and then beelined to where I was. After they were dead I was still able to get in, down the Baron with still 15mins left on the timer.

I did half of this place with three people around my level (70). We did not do it all due to not having the time, but it was not too much trouble. It can probably be done with two 70s; the non-elites go down fast with Seed of Corruption.
This place is good for mid-level drops and disenchantables. If you have the Key to the City, you can go straight to most of the bosses.

I was just wondering whether anyone bothers with this place anymore? Basic quest green items in TBC are probably better than most epic items in WOW and you don't have to roll for them! Once you hit 58 its straight to Outland for most people. I haven't been playing long but I never see this place, DM(except for the lock quest) or MC on the LFG chanel. BRD is probably the last instance most people would bother with, before heading to Outland, and Scholomance (for locks) but all the other 55-60 lvl instances seem dead. I could be wrong but thats the way it looks to me!
Maybe it is for people without the expansion pack?

I sometimes don't understand certain posts.
I am a 70 demo lock and usually team up with 2 RL friends of mine, 64 priest and 60 (!) paladin.
Me and the priest alone can clear BRD and LBRS easily (though it takes a while), and with the pallie we've been able to fully clear strat on our first try from the very beginning to Rivendare. Never tried with the priest alone but eventually we'll do.
We are not hardcore, I am the only 70 as I said with a mix of crafted purple and the rest blue, not too crappy gear but also not the best you can find around, and I don't think we are the best players on the server, so I guess...
What is so difficult in running an old game such as Strat in 5 if 3 people can easily handle it?

And before you start with the usual 'screenshot or it didn't happen', I'm gonna run Strat again in the following days because I lost the city key to the priest and I damn want it, so yes this time I'll post every screenshot I take.

With you there mate ... I'm a 70 Fury Spec warrior, and we did the whole place with a 60 Pally and 60 Druid ... not too difficult at all. All I did was wade in a smash face, while the pally and druid kept me cleansed and healed.

Our only nervous moment was facing the Baroness, if she had MC'd me .. it would have been tickets, luckily that never happened.

My big question, how would a non caster class solo this, even at level 70, seeing as though the Mangled Cadavers cast that nasty 100% health regen debuff on you which lasts 10 mins. Not even a tank with 15000 hp can withstand that (not being able to eat or bandage for 10 mins while losing 150 hp every 10 secs will kill you )

I ran Strat last nigt with the following group:
-lvl 59 Pally, Holy (me) main healer
-70 Mage, Arcane/Fire
-68 Druid, main tank in bear form
-63 Hunter, Beastmaster, off tank with pet
-70 Rogue

And lets just say with this group make-up this still was a very tough instance to run, although not as hard as it could have been. The Mage and I initially tried to run it alone as I only needed Holy water out of there for my Epic Charger quest, and we wiped a couple times and came very close a few other times. So we call in reinforcements, and like I said it got better, but it still was work and kept us all on our toes. And acting as main healer it took all I had to keep the group healed. We finally got around to Balnazzar, not necessarily looking for him but wondering around since I now had the water I needed, and he spawns as a 68 Elite!!! We were all in shock/WTF! It was a close fight but we got him down and I was able to get Demonshear for my Pally, this was very much needed for me. Throughout the instance we all got quite a few nice drops, random blue items, and 3 Righteous orbs.

This was a very tough instance but alot of fun and very profitbable!!!

What I like about this place is the drops. You can sell the diamonds and righteous orbs for a lot of money. You would need 2 mages, 2 healers (priest and better), and whatever 5th you want. You can clear to live strat in about 20 minutes with a good group and farm to your heart's content.

You can also try farming the crimson patrol that goes from hearthglen to tyr's hand for a shot at the orbs and diamonds, but there are 4 bodyguards and 1 courier, all of which are linked.

As of WoW-1.9.4.5086-to-1.10.0.5195-enUS-patch,

Along with the new Armor Sets, the high-level 5-10 man dungeons have received some changes regarding loot. Many items have been improved in quality and use. In addition, several epic items, such as Headmaster's Charge and the Runeblade of Baron Rivendare, have had their drop rates significantly increased. In order to preserve the challenge of these dungeons, they have had their instance caps lowered.
