The great city of Thunder Bluff, watched over by the mighty chief Cairne Bloodhoof, lies atop a series of mesas that overlook the verdant grasslands of Mulgore. The once nomadic Tauren have recently established the city as a center for the trade caravans coming through the area, bringing with them traveling craftsmen and artisans of every kind. The proud city also stands as a refuge for the brave Hunters who stalk their dangerous prey through the plains of Mulgore and its surrounding areas. Long bridges of rope and wood span the chasms between the mesas, topped with tents, longhouses, colorfully painted totems, and spirit lodges. The whole of the city is built on bluffs several hundred feet above the surrounding landscape, and is only accessible by elevators on the southwestern and northeastern sides or via wyvern.

Thunder Bluff was settled fairly recently by the Tauren and is the first city of its kind. For the Tauren, their previous existence was spent primarily as a nomadic society on the plains of Mulgore. But now, they welcome all Horde members teach their skills in various classes and professions, such as leatherworking and shamanism.

Unfortunately, the peaceful manner of the Tauren also makes their city the most accessible of the Horde cities to Alliance members and a very attractive target. It is not uncommon to see Alliance forces assaulting the lifts and tents for spoils of war. Fortunately, Thunder Bluff's location does make it difficult for an enemy to gain a foothold in once they have assaulted it, however. Visitors must either ride wyverns to the main spar where the windriders and their master sit, or be lifted via rope and wood elevators. While this provides easier access to enemies of the Horde, it also provides a means to contain the threat to specific locations more easily.

The Tauren are also constantly at work expanding the city, and, while some do undoubtedly regret leaving their nomadic lifestyle, they are also proud to have a home city and spend much of their time improving it and increasing security. They have received much assistance from Thrall's forces but the presence of the Forsaken creates a sense of unease with them. The Tauren place strong emphasis on the value of life and the undead status of the Forsaken is regarded as an affront to their belief system.
