Swamp of Sorrows

Screenshots

Thumbnail

When the orcs first arrived from Draenor, they initially began their invasion of Azeroth in the Swamp of Sorrows. Constructing the twin towns of Rockard and Stonard, and only later Blackrock Spire, the Swamp was their base of operations from which they assaulted Goldshire, Grand Hamlet and other human towns.

Obviously, much has changed since the first war, but Stonard still remains the lone Horde outpost north of Grom'gol. The ruins of Rockard have become a haven for some of the Draenei. Although most have lost their grip on reality, a small village remains at the Harborage.

For the mostpart, however, this land is ruled by the wildlife. Crocolisks, spiders, and cougars are all apt to attack passersby. The Pool of Tears, from which the sunken Temple of Atal'Hakkar is obscured, is surrounded by the green dragonflight, who do not accept trespassers. Murlocs guard the shores as well as a cave in the southeast.

This is not a very safe place to hang out, but it is very rich with herbs, and it provides the entrance to the sunken temple and to the Blasted Lands, which are the primary reasons to come here.

For Alliance,

Fly into Darkshire or walk from STV or Sentinel Hill (there are flight paths in Sentinel Hill and now at Rebel Camp of STV). While in Darkshire, if you are high enough, pick up the quest "Supplies for Nethergarde", the quest giver is right on the path next to the house behind the FP. Once at the flightpath in Darkshire, turn your back to the Gryph Master and go down the paved path (heading East). Continue down this road, you will go through Deadwind Pass. Keep going, you will go over a stone bridge, keep going until you get to a fork. Go left through Sleeping Gorge and into Swamp of Sorrows (if you go right you will be faced with a ?? SkyShadow (I'm a 43).

Once in Swamp of Sorrows follow the path (careful, there will be a Splinterspear PVP, she is level 37, there are a few walking the paths). Anyhow, once you get to the 1st bridge, there is a quest scroll under it called Cortello's Riddle, grab it (nice xp but is a chain, the 1st part is found in STV on one of the 3 pirate ships). Now to get to Nethergarde for "Supplies for Nethergarde" and the flightpath there. To do this you must go through the Blasted Lands. At the Y(fork) in SOS (at the first bridge) go to the right. More Splinterspear PVPs along the way. You will get to another fork in the road, go to your right again. This goes directly into Blasted Lands. Stay on the path and follow it, once you reach the fork go left. You will then see Nethergarde Keep. Once inside the keep, the flightpath is located at the far bar back right at the top of a wooden tower.

Happy questing

Hehehe. Well, I came to Swamp of Sorrows to see about farming Thick Leather. (I'm a 38 Druid with 239 Leatherworking Skill.) So, I get through Deadman" Pass and the first Mob I meet is a Lvl 36 AI PvP guy, whom I kil. The next thing I know, a Pvp PLAYER with a Lvl??? appears, and kills me with 2 arrows. I never meant to become a PvP player. Why did this happen and how do I revert to PvE?

Don't you know that when you attack a guard or any opponent identified as PVP, it will identify yourself as PVP for a moment. It disappears after a few minutes though.

My apologies for any dismay caused. I have just realised i needed to be in Dustwallow Marsh. For some reason i ended up here instead. So for any locks wandering around here looking for tabetha, your in the wrong god damn forsaken place. Get your butt to the Dustwallow Marsh.

That will teach me to look at my Quest log atmore detail.

Sorry folks. Happy Gaming

Once in the swamp, take the path into Blasted Lands, then go east into Nethergarde keep (just pass the mine). Full of allies all the way there. Flight path there makes it easier to get into the swamp the next time. I didn't realize this until Biggs told me to go there, so I kept taking the Duskwallow path.

Only way to get into Swamp (for Alliance)is by going through Deadwind pass. There is absolutely no chance of aggroing anything in Deadwind if you stay on the path. There is no FP. The closest one is in Nethergarde keep Blasted lands. If you go into blasted lands, you can go through the garrison armory to get to nethergarde with no chance of aggroing anything (again this is only for alliance. attempting this on a horde will definitely kill you.). The Harborage is where most Alli quests can be obtained. It has some of the Broken(Draeni). Not sure what faction doing these quests increases. There is also another human on the southern road who wants you to kill wildlife. this ups SW rep. Itharius's cave has nothing in it except for some smart mouth BE who is neutral. He Wont attack you. Thats all i can tell for right now except for the fact that it is an excellent place if you dont want anyone else stealing your kills(at least on my server, Malygos). Excellent place for herbs and mining.

Not sure what Deadwind pass you went through but there are a load of large birds flying around the path through it. My 36 pally went through and a ?? bird pounced on me as I went past. Luckily, I was mounted and managed to get through, only to be stunned and dismounted by the next one. It was a matter of running back for my corpse after that.

I found a long way around that doesn't take you through the pass but be in for a long swim from the coast East of Booty Bay. Keep close to the cliffs all the way around to avoid exhaustion, (stay out of the dark blue water), but don't get tempted to hit land for a bit of extra speed, there are trapsm (holes in the ground), that you can only get out of by Hearthing. Be prepared for a fight as you get to the beach in the Swamp. Druids will find it easy in their water form, it's still a long swim though but avoids the higher level zone to get into the Swamp.

I find it hard to figure why they put a higher level zone as the only route to a lower level one, especially when those birds on the road in the pass will attack you every time. I've died twice even as a 43 trying to get into the Swamp through the pass but finally managed it by swimming around from BB.
Is this a good powerlvling place or not

Looking at the Duskwood map, Deadwind Pass is Northeast of Darkshire and directly East of Manor Mistmantle. On this map, the entrance is right where the castle tower picture is (next to the words Manor Mistmantle). Once on the path, go left at the fork (to Swamp of Sorrows).

There are scalding whelplings (or tiny little dragonlings) in hte southwest corner of SoS (south of zone in from deadwind pass).

They once in a while drop these little emerald dragonlings that sell on the ah for 100-200g each, and it's a white item.

Directions to Swamp of Sorrows:

Continent: Eastern Kingdom (Alliance, Stormwind etc)

- Starting in the far east of Elwynn Forest travel south into Duskwood, following the path/road south to the town of Darkshire.

- Follow the road east out of Darkshire and it will turn NE eventually, running you into Deadwind Pass.

- In Deadwind Pass, continue following the road east through the valley and it will turn south. Follow it south until the mountains open up again to the east and continue east into the Swamp of Sorrows.
