Duskwood

Screenshots

Thumbnail

Once the lush southern belt of Elwynn Forest, the land of Duskwood has been transformed into a dark and errie place, rife with monstrous undead of all sorts. Many speculate that its proximity to the mysterious Deadwind Pass brings monstrous horrors out at night. Others wonder if an ancient curse has been cast upon the land.

No matter the reason, Duskwood has become a land of terror and superstition. The Human farmers who once toiled over the rich land have become dark and brooding - unwilling to leave their ancestral home but unable to lift the terrible cloud that has settled over their lives. Bordered by the fallow fields of Westfall to the west and the dark, treacherous Deadwind Pass to the east, Duskwood has become a tainted realm where shadows and evil permeate the atmosphere even during the brightest hours of day.

That's where one of the dragons spawn. You are lucky it wasn't there when you visited.

This is a good level(for alliance) to quest in since you can go from 20-30 very quickly because there are a lot of quests. Also if you use 2 handed swords, Archeus is awesome and is a quest reward. On pvp servers Horde sometimes like to run around ganking the low level Alliance for fun. Stay off the road and you should be ok, but it's a long run back and forth between Raven Hill and Duskwood.

There is a little bit of everything in this zone. Spiders, wolves, undead, humans, and ogres. The worgen are one of the few skinnable humanoids, and makes it easy to level the skill because there are so many. There are a bunch of rare spawns that give some good greens. The mining is ok, but a lot of the iron is hard to get to because they are in the hills and the trees make it hard to see the way to get there.

Everyone at one point or another want to see what's in the Twilight Grove in the middle of the zone. The last time I went there there was an elite dragon walking around, so you might want to just forget going in there.

There's an odd grave site, with some of those creepy statues with the burning eyes overlooking the area. It's a human's grave, and he's holding a sword, so he must be some kind of revered guy. It can't be Morgan Ladimore, because his grave is over at Raven Hill.... I'm not sure who else was a revered hero from Duskwood, besides Ladimore.... It's a neat place, though; the coords are (89,30).

Any Horde that comes from Stranglethorn is too high for this area, even if it did have quests (which it doesn't.) You can explore for what little experience you gain from doing so, but otherwise this area holds no real purpose for Horde.

Most are going to be traveling through to go to the Deadmines or are on the way to Swamp of Sorrows for the first time. My strategy is to hug the south border and go counter clockwise until you run into the road to Deadwind Pass. Any hunters looking for a rare pet should note Naraxis' location just south of the road to Deadwind pass. She resides in a cave with some 20-something spiders around her. She is an extremely rare spawn, so if you don't see her, just keep going to Stonard and come back later.

The average levels here mean most mobs don't pose a threat, and really are only an annoyance. Staying unknown here is important because of the relative distance to Stormwind and the occasional 60-70 Alliance running through to get to STV/etc.

There IS a horde trainer at/near Beggar's Haunt, in the old tower. I believe he is an alchemy trainer, but its been an age since I rode over there.

Is there any safe haven for Horde characters in this region at all? At least a place where you can get your equipment fixed?

I went exploring here a bit with my undead warlock today, but the only way I know of to get to it is through Stranglethorn Vale, and my behind got owned twice on the walk over (once by a raptor I couldn't put a scratch on, once by a panther I almost killed). Unfortunately, after that it only took a few more fights in Duskwood before I started to get paper-dolled.

Any suggestions?

no, theres nothing there. Its a hide and run if you are not a high level. Its really only there to run through to something or ganking if thats your thing. as mentioned tho, if you are ganking, theres gonna be 60s & 70s there in no time.

Looking at the Duskwood map, Deadwind Pass is directly East of Darkshire. On this map, the entrance is at the end of the path going East leading away from Darkshire into the mountains. Once on the path, keep going straight until you reach a fork (Sleeping Gorge) in the road. At this fork, go left (to Swamp of Sorrows).

Just about any humanoid/undead in this zone drop wool that sells for about 1.3g a stack at the ah. The experience here is also great. My favorite is the tomb near the crypt.
