Quest: Jail Break!

Objectives

Help Marshal Windsor get his gear back and free his friends. Return to Marshal Maxwell if you succeed.

Description

We need to get out of here, <Name>. Help me get my gear back from the supply area and free my friends. If we make it out of here, you are to proceed to Morgan's Vigil and speak with Marshal Maxwell. He will give you further instruction.

Completion

Amazing, <name>. Simply amazing. Windsor stormed through here not five minutes ago. He makes some grand claims but purports that they are supported by his evidence. He is on his way to Stormwind now to confront Bolvar and ... Lady Prestor.

Additional Notes

This is the infamous escort quest that you have probably heard about at some point in guild chat or in your travels. This quest is actually extremely easy to do, provided you take the right precautions. Before ANYONE accepts the Jail Break! quest from Marshal Windsor, you must clear the path that he will be walking to retrieve his gear. There are two main areas you must clear, the first being the ring in which his cell is located, the other being the Ring of the Law. Make sure you clear out the cells along the way as well. Marshal Windsor gives off an aura that inceases attack speed, not everyone in the party will get it, it is broken so don't worry about it. Even if you clear out the path, there will still be enemies that spawn to attack you. Make sure your tanks are on their toes, you don't want Marshal Windsor dying and he is a pretty weak guy at this point in time. And no you cannot heal him during the fights, he will refill by himself after each one is over. After you are done, go back to Morgan's Vigil in the Burning Steppes and talk to Marshal Maxwell.

I was barely able to solo this quest as a 70 rogue, for a very important reason. When he stops at a cell and tells you to open it, he won't progress until the person inside is either free or dead. Use this opportunity to bandage up, eat, drink, loot, what have you. You'll need it.

I just led my m8s through this last night. I don't know if it's because all five of us (Draenei Warr x2, Human Pally x2, Draenei Mage x1) were all 62-70, but Windsor CAN BE BUFFED AND HEALED. His aura didn't affect all of us, and our pally auras didn't affect him, but we had BoK/BoSanct on him the entire time...and I was able to heal him while fighting.
Not that it mattered...every time he spawned something, our 62 tank and 64 pally just shouted/consecrated all the mobs onto themselves, and Windsor never dropped below 90%, even nekkid.
So you don't even need to clear the Rings now. ^_^

My wife and I duoed this with my 70 Hunter and her 65 Rogue. I made the collossal mistake of not talking to him before the escort and after doing the whole thing and getting back to Stormwind I realized that when one group member starts it, you do NOT get credit for the escort. Ugh. Stupid mistake but easy one to make if you aren't paying attention. =(

This quest is easier if you clear out all the mobs first, and that includes 2 simple bosses.

Did it with:

We decided to clear the arena and the beast guy while we were clearing. The quest is quite boring

Did this last night and I can honestly say it's the most fun quest I've done in ages. A pug was forming in IF but they already had a hunter so I was out of luck but when the other guy left I got in and after the last recruits were added the party was:

60 Warrior (who luckily brought a handful of FR gear)
60 Hunter (me...who didn't)
60 Priest
55 Priest
60 Paladin

I'm BM-specd in just my pvp blues so it was nice to be at the top of the damage meter for once, especially nearly x3 the #2. The priests cycled healing when needed and the 55 delivered a huge string of well timed mindflays to help with multiple runners. We had a couple of deaths (paly and priest who ran out of mana saving Windsor's suicidal behind) but with 3 rezzers someone always had just enough mana to get everyone up again before Windsor went out of range. None of us were epic geared and with only partial pre-clearing, respawns while we grabbed the jail key and no aoe I was a little sceptical but I can honestly say they were one of the best co-ordinated pugs I've been in. Great fun!

we where doing fine until we got to the stogage room when we opened the door a swarm of mobs jumped out at us the party wiped but windsor survived the attack and killed off the rest of the mobs it was hilarious because of the fact that we failed the quest but he still survived so really it wasn't us protecting him it was us protecting the gaurds FROM him.

Can multiple people in the same group/raid be on Jail break part at the same time? I tried to do this today with 3 people that had already turned in Lost Information, and needed escort. The only person that got to accept Jail Break part, was the person that accepted the quest. It did not prompt anyone else for it.

After running this dang quest 4 times in a row, I've figured out what must be done for everyone to get it.

FIRST... make sure NO ONE starts it early, untill everyone is ready.

SECOND... makes sure everyone has room in quest log for at least 1 quest.(had someone not get pop-up because of this)

THIRD... make sure everyone has completed 'A Shred of Hope' if they are completeing it right before starting Jailbreak... REMIND them to NOT start Jailbreak until all are ready.

FORTH... Make sure anyone who has Jailbreak! in thier quest log from a previous attempt, ABONDON it before starting this one. (This happened to me, even though quest in log did not say fail, put did not get update at end)

FIFTH... Make sure steps 1-4 are done... and be sure everyone is close to Windsor... DO NOT START before everyone is ready.

It really was not difficult at all, and we didn't have a whole lot of DPS in our grouop. You have to clear out all the mobs from the entire prison loop and the entire ring of law loop. You also have to clear all the mobs in the big room that connects them. Marshal Windsor manages to wander almost the entire length of both loops. There are occasional spawns of mobs, but they weren't all that difficult for us.

You don't have to do the ring of law event, and you don't have to clear out the center rooms in the middle of the prison area loop.

How easy it is depends on how you do it. It can be anywhere from impossible to trivial. Your levels will matter, too. If you are all level 54, it will be a lot harder than if you're all level 60.

If you pre-clear the path (particularly the storage room), you won't have much trouble at all. If you don't preclear, you'll need to do it one of two ways: either with a very efficient party or by alternating healers every fight. If you have a rogue that thinks he can tank, that's a good way to fail. Tanking rogues suck down all the healers mana instantly.

The trick on pre-clearing is to make sure everyone is entirely ready to do jailbreak before you go in and start clearing. If you've run around doing the other pre-jailbreak quests, you run the risk of starting the run on what looks to be a nicely cleared area only to run into a full respawn on the way back out. If your group is not strong enough to do it without preclearing (it takes a skilled group with an ideal class mix to do it straight up), it's best to leave and reset the instance and start over clearing the entire path non-stop before starting Jailbreak! That way, you have a nice maximum time-gap before respawn.

I've done this quest about 10 or 11 times I'd say with both methods, mostly with preclear. Preclear is definitely the easiest, but if you have a skilled group just starting it and tearing everything up can be fun, too. I think we've failed two or three times. Every failure was on a run where we did not preclear.

The easiest and quickest non-clearing run was with a warlock and a mage both AE'ing everything we ran across; 5x60 for that group (war, priest, mage, warlock, hunter).

Depends on the rogues. Did Jailbreak with 2 60 rogues tanking and it was cake. Priest was saying "pull faster, mispull, or something... I'm not working hard enough".

Yes a 5 person group can finish without too much trouble. However, you MUST clear the two rings of cells of all dark iron dwarves before starting. If you don't you won't be able to do it.

Clearing those dwarves makes the quest doable, and not too hard if your group knows what they are doing.

I found out the hard way last night that it is in fact doable without clearing out both rings, though definitely not preferred. The real problem is the fact that Windsor isn't a very courteous party member LOL! I've had problems with members not letting me drink up between fights, but this guy is a real prick with belief he's in god mode, running into mob after mob without rest. Our group had cleared out one ring, the jail area, but the Ring of Law wasn't cleared ahead of time, meaning we had regular mobs, spawned mobs, and patrol mobs to deal with. We did it successfully with no deaths, but had several close calls, with me (NE Restor Druid - 60) being the MH, and having next to no mana on each fight. I had to keep clicking to drink as each fight ended until it let me, get my mana up as fast as possible, watch my party take a beating, and then RUN in do some quick heals.... EVERY FIGHT!

The above poster said it's not doable without clearing, and although last night proved him wrong, I would seriously suggest taking his advice, clearing first and give your healer a break.

clearing the rings definitely helps, but what's more important is clearing the store room. the store room is on the loop with windsor's cell. windsor stops at one other cell, then the store room. the store room has about 4 elite mobs in it, then it spawns another 4 when windsor gets there for the quest. you can kill the first 4 before starting the jail break quest, so when windsor gets there there's only 4 mobs.

i dont know if it can be done in a raid group. i've been told that it must say "(raid)" next to the quest for it to be possible as a raid, but attunement is doable in a raid group. if you know what you're doing, jail break isn't bad, easily done with a 5 man group.

The Jailbreak quest cannot be done with a raid. I know this first-hand, as a group of us in a raid attempted it. This can only be done with a regular party.

Yeah, I can attest to it being doable without clearing the two rings. We did it last night. We actually did clear the far ring, but after folks needed to eat dinner, go smoke, yada yada, the whole ring repopped.

That Windsor character really likes to fight. He won't stop for two seconds and doesn't seem to mind that the healer was screeming OOM!

Reminded me of bad instance runs at lower levels. :)
