Objectives

Kill a Cold Eye Basilisk, get a Chilled Basilisk Haunch, and return it to Angus Stern in the Blue Recluse.

Description

One of my most famous dishes is Chilled Basilisk in Lime Vinaigrette. But the problem is... the meat is impossible to keep fresh, and I must serve the dish tonight for a noble's birthday!

So if you can bring me a Chilled Basilisk Haunch from a freshly-killed Cold Eye Basilisk, quickly, then I will owe you a king's feast!

Cold Eye Basilisks are known to roam along the beach dunes of northwestern Stranglethorn, so you have much traveling to do. And be swift!

Progress

<name>! Do you have that haunch? I must begin preparing it soon, or the banquet will be ruined!

Completion

Ah, this will do nicely! Many, many thanks!

Now if you'll excuse me, I must get the haunch chopped, marinated and garnished for the banquet.

Solo'd as a level 36 Shaman. Easy street.
Set Hearth to Stormwind, flew to Darkshire, and ran south. Cold Eye Basilisks are around 36, 41 in Stranglethorn Vale. Got the northern SV flightpath on the way.
Drop on first kill.
Hearthed back to SW and finished the quest with 11.5 mins to spare.

Ok so I read the mob level was 34-40 and thought it would be easy until I got there and had a rude surprise.

Just became a level 35 Dranei Mage. Thankful for all the tips here I set off on the FP (SW-BB takes about 3 mins) I decided to swim along the coast with occasional "blinks". Stay away from the heavy duty mobs of all sorts along the coast here, particularly the bloodsail lot, especially if you are already as unpopular with them as my mage is!!

I got to the part of the coast populated with Cold-eye's with the clock ticking at 20 mins remaining. Immediately noticed they ware all level 40's! Feeling a little cheated, I skirted along the coast a little more and made landfall, heading for the road, expecting for the mob level to reduce when I got to it. IT DIDN'T! Yikes! What's more, as I passed through the jungle on my way to the road with my mana shield full on, I attracted the unwanted attention of several level 39 and level 40 Cold-eye basilisks. maybe it's because I am a frost oriented mage and they fancied a piece of MY icy haunch? It took a while to shake them all off. I came back to them, still looking for something lower level. While looking, I aggroed two stealthed shadow panthers. Grrrr. More running. I decided to bite the bullet and go for a level 39 Cold-eye basilisk.

With ice armour on, elixir of greater defense, well fed on sagefish delight i still feared the worst. I hit him with three frost bolts, he was extremely sluggish and I was surprised to see that it lowered his health by about a third. As he reached me, I set a frost nova down and he stopped while I backed up a few steps and sent another couple of frost bolts. Man! This was going to be one well preserved haunch, if he dropped it! Drop it he did, in response to my cone of cold!! My bonus frost damage btw is 43. With 10 mins remaining, I teleported back to SW mage quarter and handed in the q with 9 mins to spare.

Without these posts I would have been lost....but look out for the mob level guys and gals. Umm is it my imagination, or does the head chef have a crotch bulge?? My, what a big messy cleaver he has, too!! LOL.

Flew from SW to BB, found the croc at 36,41 as described elsewhere with 19:30 to go.

Killed it, probably always drops for the quest.

Decided to run north and get the new fp at the rebel camp in the north as my hearthstone was down; got there with 12:00 to go.

So no hearth, no mount, no troubles, go for it.

Coordinates are (36,41). Right next to the road.

Also the text about "must not release your spirit" appears to be misleading. I got ganked by a horde along the road, clicked the "release spirit" button to go to the graveyard, and ran back. Figured the quest was Failed, but it didn't show as failed and the timer was still running.

So I finished it anyway (killed the basalisk and teleported back to SW). Was going to re-Accept the quest but instead he said thanks and it was Completed!

I suspect that you can't die AFTER looting the haunch, as otherwise you could use it to exploit a faster route home.

Did this with 6 minutes to spare, including stopping off for some mining along the way. Had a mount with no speed increases, and foolishly headed for the northern-most collection of basilisks which aren't the right ones - THAT part of the text is definitely misleading!

4700xp, 500rep with SW, 1G50 - excellent quest for the level!

Did this in 15 min with a mounted 40 pally and SW hearthstone, using info in thread: fly to BB, run just north of Gurubashi Arena then off path to left the Cold Eye Bassies are 39-40 and drop the haunch right away, then hearth out. The rewards were rich, as described.

Horde gankers are always a risk in SV, so be prepared. I passed several mounted and unmounted Horde, but my mount is a fast warhorse and nobody bothered me this time. Lots of traffic on the road, as it was a weekend.

if the quest had told me where to go instead of sending me on a wild goose chase then I'd have done this first time, EASY - but as it lied its ass off to me I missed the timer

This is an easy quest despite what the game throws at you. As lvl 40 hunter, set hearthstone to SW. Took gryph to BB, found the basilisks on left side of the road just north of the arena and past deadman's curve. Lost my connection twice during this quest and had bad lag and still made it back to the Blue Recluse with 8 minutes. What a riot!!!
nice.

I just finished this quest at lvl 39 with no mount, no hearthstoning to SW, and with five minutes left on the timer. I was fairly surprised that I was able to finish it as most of the time STV is a big Horde gank fest on Bonechewer. If you were 40+ with your mount and your hearthstone set to SW then this quest would be much too easy to pass up.

Im a NE hunter so I was using Aspect of the Cheetah. I got the quest then Griffed to BB(its closer)ran to the Basilisks and the first one i killed dropped the haunch. I stoned back to SW and I turned in the quest. Time left was 15 m 15 s.

By the time I found the right basilisk (looking at the Stranglethorn map, they're in the central western shoreline at the curved shoreline on the map), I only had about a minute to kill it and get back. The time ran out before I killed it. I was able to get the haunch from the corpse but I failed the mission.
Sooooo, I brought the haunch to Stormwind. Cancelled and regrabbed the quest and just handed over the haunch I already got. Quest completed! :)
My hearthstone was set for Booty Bay, so I had no teleport tunnels to worry about.

One of the rules to this quest is that you can't release your spirit.

After I killed the basilisk, I used my hearthstone to get to Ironforge, and hopped on the tram to go to Stormwind. Unfortunately, the quest failed as soon as I went through the tram portal.

Perhaps it's because you get a loading screen that the quest thinks you're releasing your spirit? Whatever the case may be, I'd suggest setting your hearthstone to Stormwind when doing this one.
