First of all took forever to find him, but found him at northernmost part of map at around 5:21pm. He tends to show up when you least expect it... like right when youre ready to give up on him.
Killed me once, didnt make the same mistake again.
I tried the freazing him in ice thing aaaaand it didnt work the first 2 times. As soon as it fails, run away. It usually helps if u have aspect of the cheetah on.
What worked for me was, I set an ice trap, waited till the recharge was about half way, lured him to the ice trap, backed away a few feet while he was frozen, set another trap, then started taming him.
It took me 4 tries to tame him, but its soooo worth it. He's really fast, despite what blizzard see's as "normal speed".

Spent a lot of time hiding in the roots ans bushes around 18,30 and frantically switching between track humanoids and beasts. It's just off the path between the main road and the Horde camp on the strand.
Saw him at 18,30 three times. First two times he feared and killed me and was dead when I rezzed. This time he was in the bush I was hiding in when I spawned and was literally chewing on me as I materialized. Died again after being feared but he was there when I came back. Got him in the freeze trap and he didn't try to fear this time so I got him and did cheetah speed through the woods back to Darkshore. By that time, with a week of being killed behind me, armor was down to about 50%/
If you're after Mist Howler, don't get discouraged if he keeps fearing you. Sooner or later you'll get to do a tame where he doesn't cast the Terrifying Howl.
When I hit lvl 23, I'll be camping Humar in Horde territory using lessons learned from my experience with Mist Howler:
- Carry LOTS of health, mana, and armor potions/elixirs.
- Carry extra armor pieces as I'll get beat up a lot.

What are the chances? I decided to read about other pets on Allakhazam and decided to go have a look for Ghost Saber. Since my hunter was logged in Ashenvale, I checked Mist Howler's spawn one last time and saw his dot on my minimap. Oh yes, he adds to the collection of my Narnia characters.

Tamed on 11.9.2006, 06.30 am game time on Steamwheedle Cartel (EU) (Just for info if someone else is looking for him)
EDIT: Just got him earlier tonight. Got super-lucky! I finished getting to 22, and was just cruising around to see if I could see him, figuring that he'd been killed in the five or six hours since I'd last seen him, and there he was on track! Got him on the fourth or fifth try, too. Freeze trap + concussive shot works WONDERS. As long as he doesn't pull the howl on you (did it every time JUST as the taming was about to finish), you only have about five or eight seconds left on the tame when he breaks free of the trap, which helps a LOT. And yes, he's fast, he's pretty, and he does mad DPS. I love my new Perrin! *Hugs!*

great little tank, nice attk spd for a wolf, faster then avg chase spd.. just all around a great pet, furious howl works nicely with my aim shot too.
now ive got echeyakee and mist howler just need to level up.
mist howler aka Nighteyes.. and ive yet to pick a name for echeyakee.
i can still spawn this white lion for another 4days or so on lightning blade alliance side so let me no if u want him.
scracky is my rge, and hunter is Fitzchivalry.. fitz has a weird I in the chivalry part that u make by holding down alt and hittin 1 1 6 4 release should make his I in chIvalry

So luckily i had this day of so i thought if i stand up a bit early most kids are at school i have a bigger chance, since its on a 12 hour spawn time and not many people quest there at night i figured...
So at 10 AM i found nothing at first, but when i checked again around 10.30 i found him on the western most spawn place on the map... he was on the road to the beach... i found him using hte macro :D
So i (filled with joy) immidiately dumped my runner wolf place holder ... put down a freezing trap, used conc. shot to pull him and started taming, with the conc. shot and freeze trap you're able to tame him 1/2 to 3/4th of the way already... unfortunately he feared me when i had like .5 or 1 second left :o
So i wing clipped him fled went out of combat and tried again, the second time he feared even sooner (at around 4-5 seconds left)
Third time did it for me, he didnt fear me and i have a cool wolf with 1.3 AS now :D...

I just got my Mist Howler not thirty minutes ago!
For some people, I guess Mist Howler was nothing to find and tame, but for others, including me, that S.O.B. just would not spawn! Three days I hunted him in Ashenvale! Had the macro set up and everything, but no dice, unfortunately. Then, last night at 8:00pm (C.S.T.) the server reset and I heard from someone that when the server resets, the rare spawns wont actually spawn for 24 hours. So, I waited until exactly 8:00pm tonight, wich was about 30 minutes ago, logged in, and the first thing I saw was Mist Holwer! It was magical. hehe! I'm really happy now.
Taming him was easy as hell for me. The first time I did it I @#%^ed up, though. But the second time, I just laid a Freezing Trap, backed up, used Concussive Shot, and began taming! When he broke out of the trap, he was more than half way tamed and he didn't fear me and I tamed him! I'm really excited now.
So, I guess, for those of you that didn't know, anytime there's a server restart, wait 24 hours, then go to the loation of the pet that you want to tame, and do it to it!

Same as below I managed to get him at the northern most spawn point. Took 3-4 days of checking back just gotta get lucky.
Doesnt seem to have a plaeholder mob, he was wondering in his own little area. Watch the fear otherwise easily captured :)

I abandoned my part-time worker cat(a Moonstalker Matriarch) and started to tame him. Everything was well when at the halfpoint of the tame channeling he howled that fear and my HP was so low but i didn't give up and drunk a pot and started again to tame him. This time i was lucky and he didn't howl.
About this pet: He is amazing. Incredible run speed, really nice attack speed, and also cool skin.. He is the king of the wolves.

This morning I found Mist Howler at the northernmost point indicated on the Allakhazam map (10AM PST). Unfortunately, an Alliance paladin came along and not only ganked me, but killed the wolf while I was doing a corpse run!
Tonight I decided to camp for him and after about an hour and a half he respawned at the same point at approximately 9:30 PM, so it looks like he's on more like an 11 or 12 hour timer.
I had success taming him by using an ice trap, using concussion shot, and immediately taming while he was stunned and then frozen. He only had 4 or 5 seconds left on the tame timer to attack me and didn't get a fear off.
He tamed at level 22 (yes, not 23) with a 1.3 attack speed and Furious Howl rank 1. No bite or claw, but he learned the free Growl rank 3 even though he had -10 training points.

And the reason it has negative training points is because it came with a skill that costs points. Once he goes up in loyalty or level, he will get some of his points back. So, what is the coloring on this wolf? White, i assume.
I may go looking for him once I reach 22.

It took me three tries. I planted a Freeze trap and waited until he was in position. I then fired a concussive shot and began taming. After breeaking the trap, he immediatley used his fear ability. I turned right around and feared him myself and ran.
This happened twice, until one time he decided not to use the fear. That is when I completed my task.
All I have to say is... HE IS FAST!!

So, both do the same damage per sec (despite the fact that Mist Howler is supposedly a tenth of a second slower), and Mist Howler does more overall damage! The numbers speak for them selves....glad to see I didn't waste 5 days of hunting afterall LOL!

Here's the question: does the respawn timer go from spawn to spawn, or from death / taming to next spawn? I have no idea how long he was there this morning, but after his death, Mist Howler re-appeared around 12 hours later.
Hope that helps.. he's awesome. Came tamed with Furious Howl Rank 1 and 1.3 attack speed.
Took a couple attempts to tame for hunter pet... feared me the first time and chewed the crap out of me. Finally succeeded though. Good looking doggie :)
