Picked this up tonight, i'm loving the +hit gear i've accumulated through Jin'do's Judgement and this item, i'm starting top other mages damage because they get too many resists, while most of my spells hit.

I saved this from DE tonight. Even in PvP I can't even justify the 100 hp / 240 mana gain for the 22 damage loss from: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=19923

I have it on my priest, no 1 wanted it
and it beat my old neck's stats.
too bad it ain't 1% crit and it will be changed
soon when i got enough stuff to summon silithius
wavefront neck boss :P

stats r nice..oh well the +hit is only good for
pvp, now my mindblasts etc will resist less often
(I mainly heal in pvp also anyway so it's still
pretty useless)

I would pass for this if any warlock wants it, because +1% to-hit is very useful in MC, banish... ;)

but for healers, its completely useless, or did ur party members ever resisted your healing spells...?

Well, as a mage, Choker of the Firelord would be nice, but this thing isnt bad at all... bad luck i wasnt there when it dropped last night on our first Hakkar kill...

Well, if you ignore the +spell hit the necklace is still pretty nice for healers. It has more intellect than any other BoP necklace in the game. Granted you could get tooth of gnarr, but I know my priest and shaman like stamina when the group sucks.

I would have to disagree, if a 'lock has Dest base high enough for Ruin, all the + to crit you can get is needed. Great item in that respect.

unless you already have +17% to hit with spells* then +1% hit is always better for a warlock than +1% crit, even if you have ruin! with ruin, +1% hit and +1% crit are equivalent damage-wise on spells that can crit, but warlocks have many useful spells that cannot crit but can be resisted. if you have ruin you want to get more crits, but +crit isn't the only thing that gives you more crits. the less an enemy resists, the more chances you have to get crits.

ruin gives you bigger crits, so lots of people think that spell crits are very important. however, ruin is actually responsible for very little of your damage. if you have a 12% crit rate, against a boss about 10% of your shadowbolts will crit. those shadowbolts will do 33% more damage than the SBs of a non-ruin warlock, resulting in an increase of 10% * 33%, or 3.3% damage. the talent for improved curse of agony is laughed at because it only increases the damage done by 6%, but ruin is praised for increasing your damage by 3.3%.

compare ruin to bane, which lowers the cast time of shadowbolt from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds. that means you can cast 20% more shadowbolts in the same amount of time. it doesn't make your crits any bigger, but it increases your damage by 20%. it can be counter-intuitive, but sometimes the best talents for damage really have nothing to do with damage at all. similiarly, you might think that +crit gear is doing wonders for your damage, but other stats are better.

* bosses generally have a 17% chance to completely resist damage spells. trash mobs only have a 4-6% chance.

Dude, what use is a crit if it gets resisted?
+1% hit means +1% damage. And btw, if you crit too much you'll aggro anyway (unless maybe if you have MD rank 5 with imp summoned). And +hit works on DoTs, +crit doesn't. =)

as a 60 mage, i have a choker of enlightenment, and i find it much more useful in high lvl instances, just for the +dmg. this is just a plus 1% chance to hit with spells, quite useless for mage imo.

That's actually not true, the way risistances work has been changed. I'm sure that every caster has been annoyed with how many resists sometimes appear to happen.

Items with % to hit with spells are actually very valuable for any offensive caster, because the more % to hit with spells you have, the more chance to ignore a target's resist you gain.

It's more of a Hybrid class item, rather than a straight up caster. Mages and Locks will still be better off with +damage stuff like either of the Chokers.

We (Affliction, Horde, EU-Bladefist) gave ours to a Druid last night. Moonfire spam ftw ;)
