Was really surprised by this; Darkclaw Lobster does indeed average 48g per stack. Which is amazing, given it’s a Bay of Storms trash fish. Specifically it's the fish you're most likely to catch in open water (non fish pool) fishing. And cheeseheadnate is correct. Empirically I've found Scalebeard's Cave is the best place to catch them.
I think the reason this is: Darkclaw Lobster is used in Lobster Stew and cooking Lobster Stew is the easiest way to skill from 275 to 310 cooking. Evidently a lot of players skill up cooking, and skip fishing.
Which goes to show, if you skill up cooking, skill up your fishing simultaneously, and if you skill up fishing, you may as well skill up cooking, because fishing gives you a ton of cooking mats.
Great advice! Was able to get Darkclaw Lobster with out much trouble. Was a little skeptical with the posts below this one, but my fishing started at 220 and was still able to get the Darkclaw Lobster.
Azshara, head NE to Scalebeard's Cave (just off shore).
If you want to catch a TON of Darkclaw Lobsters then land in Azshara, head NE to Scalebeard's Cave (just off shore). This is the best spot for catching lobster, and I normally in an hour I can catch 80+ Darkclaw Lobster, 30+ Eel, 5-7 Clams (normally get 1-2 gold pearls from these). I CONSTANTLY hit this spot, it is a HUGE money maker for me!!!!
So you got yourself a Master cookbook. Now what? Of all the alternative recipes, you need the lobster stew one to avoid cooking all the green recipes for ever and finish your way up to 300 in cooking. The other recipes you might be able to find (for squid or salmon) are harder to fish for in comparison. OK...so you get the recipe from a trader in Feathermoon stronghold (an island off the ferelas coast) and then you go to Azshara to fish in the bay of storms. The lobster's only reason for existence is to help you complete your skill level to 300. After that it is outland recipes up to 375.
Just fished a big amount, along with half a stack of Large Raw Mightfish and other odd things like some Winter Squids, many Stonescale Eels and a Reinforced Locked Chest at 56,52, on a small rock in Hetaera's Clutch in Azshara. Had 296+75+25 Fishing, nice catch rate, few misses :D The right place to reach 300 cooking and fishing :D
I randomly picked up a stack of 20 of these in the AH the other day because they were cheap. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that on a lvl 60 pet they add 35 hapiness per tick (or chew...) Anyway, cheaper than roast quail for me, so it might be an easy way to fish or buy good pet food.

Yes, this is a fished item. You have to go offshore until you are in the Bay of Storms. It takes a very high skill (~325 just to fish). With my 300 skill, +20 pole, +5 string, and +5 hat, I still have to use lures to catch stuff. Even with 405 skill, about one in five fish get away.
About half the catches in the Bay of Storms are the lobsters.

Any use for them other than for food?
Only problem is, you have to have a buffed fishing skill - 320 (300 fish and big iron pole) was not enough! I had to use Baubles too!
