Quest: Devourer of Souls
Who: Gakin the Darkbinder
Starts in: Stormwind City
Attain: 20
Level: 20
XP: 775
Notes: Go to Stormwind, then to the warlock place in the Slaughtered Lamb (gotta love that name). Talk to Gakin the Darkbinder for the quest. You will have to travel far so have a group of people or a couple of high levels escort you if you like. I made it all the way by myself, but got scared at the Crossroads in the Barrens and waited for some friends to help me with this quest.

Cosmos location for Takar the Seer: The Barrens (HORDE TERRITORY) 49,57 (Camp Taurajo Bramblescar)

How to get to The Barrens: I suggest flying to Menethil Harbor and taking the boat over to Darkshore. Then run, run, run to the Barrens. You should go through Ashenvale (level 30ish critters here) to get to The Barrens (18-25ish). This is Horde Territory so it might be wise to go with a big group, a few high level characters.

If you can’t fly to the Harbor, then journey to Ironforge. Take the North Gate Pass into Loch Modan. Then take Algaz Pass through some tunnels till you enter the Wetlands. Follow the path all the way around till you get to Menethil Harbor. The Wetlands are Contested Territory, so be wary of Horde. Follow the directions above to get to The Barrens.

In The Barrens: When you get to the Crossroads, be sure not to just walk on through it (the guards don’t seem to like that for some reason ), take the left entrance for there are no guards really. After you get around that, then head to Bramblescar and look for a tent at Camp Taurajo, or the yellow “?” or the yellow circle on the minimap and there you will find Takar. After that, return from wince you came, remember to avoid the guards at the crossroads. Go back to Ashenvale.

Quest: Heartswood
Who: Takar the Seer
Starts in: The Barrens
Attain: 20
Level: 20
XP: 1550
Notes: In Ashenvale: Look for the tree surrounded by warlocks and their summons. You can’t miss it really. Pick them off one by one, then loot the tree. Then teleport or whatever back to the inn in Stormwind or wherever your inn is (if your inn is not in Stormwind, you will have to travel there anyway so its best to set it there.

Quest: The Binding
Who: Gakin the Darkbinder
Starts in: Stormwind CityAttain: 20
Level: 20
XP: 1150

Back at Stormwind: Go to the Slaughtered Lamb and talk to Gakin the Darkbinder. Then go to the Summoning Circle (just like what is done for the Voidwalker). Fight the succubus and return to Gakin. This will automatically be put in the spellbook, not in your bag.

Hi All, thanks for all the advise.... I'm a lvl 30 warlock, and have a pretty basic question... As I understand it, I need to get to Menethil Harbor to get to Kalimdor, but I don't know how to make it there, I die when i get to burning steppes. I assumed I should run through here and go north? Is there any other way to get to ironforge?

Running around in Horde territory was fun,on my server Sargeras i did this quest with a friend, I being 20 and my friend lvl 19, we ran the entire way from Stormwind to the Barrens flagged , grabbing each flightpath as we went, we met up with Horde along the way, we ran like hell, with pets attacking , my friend was a hunter so she would lay the cold trap and she had a Boar which would get us a few extra seconds from stunning the horde, when we were there we met up with so many dangers, especially when we were in that 40's zone running from these huge bears and dinosaur things, this was one of the quests that they make harder for the horde territory thing but running there was half the fun

Just thought I'd throw this out there. You can swim from Westfall to Booty Bay in about 5 minutes. I have taken a few characters this way at level 15 or so. There does not to seem to be anything the the water to get you as long as you stay far away from the beaches. At Booty bay you can catch the boat to Rachet and you are very close to your goal.

No, seen as the places you have to go for the quest is in Horde Territory. If you want to be able to summon a Succumbus then you're gonna have to go into Horde territory

First, at level 20 I had no problem running from Theramore to the barrens. Only died once in the barrens, and that was after skirting the Crossroads. There is a guard shack to the north of the Crossroads that I apparently did not give a wide enough berth.

Second, The ever elusive tree you are searching for in Ashenvale stand in the Ruins of Ordil'Aran at 31,31. I ran all over the place looking for a tree guarded by warlocks and void walkers with none to be found. The only thing guarding the tree when I went were a few Dark Strand Enforcers.

The cheapskate way to do this.
I decided to solo this...so
Went to Stormwind and got the quest, took the Tram to IronForge, flew to Menethil Harbor, Took the boat to Theramore...
Ran naked from Theramore to Camp Taurajo, died a few times on the way from crocks and died even more at the camp after I ran in looking for Takar the Seer. He's to the east of the camp on the other side of the Gold Road in a camp with two very small tents near a tree. I then ran north through the barrens, made a wide arc around east side of the crossroads and then into the village at the Northern border where I died a few more times at the hands of the guards.
Made it into Ashenvale and ran all the way to Astranaar (only died once on the way this time, Horde player found me). Put my clothes back on, repaired any damaged items in my inventory and then went to scout out the tree, missed it completely and ended up in a stone column circle with a lvl 22 warlock, his VW and a bunch of other hostile NPC, died a few times there trying to fight my way in to what I thought was the tree, it wasn't. Found the actual tree south of the warlock and it was fairly easy to get in and get the wood after I took out a few of the warlocks and some gardeners (or whatever they were called) on the south side of the tree. I didn't get killed here.
In all I would say I died about 20 times and took 3 or 4 hours to get my Succubus at lvl 20. Didn't cost very much silver either, only paid for the flight to the harbor and to repair items in my inventory after the long run. If I had tried to fight my way in or out I would probably still be there a week later with completely damaged weapons and armor and still no succubus.

I did see a few Horde along the way but they were probably too busy laughing at me running around in my underwear to attack me. :)

Well, I tried it. Solo. Died a dozen times, but finally made it. Once you make it to the cape of STV, when you die your spirit guide is right outside BB, so of course you just resurrect and go hop on the boat.

Probably just as long as going through Menethil to Darkwood and running through Ashenvale, possibly faster. if I had someone help keep the predators off in STV, probably woulda been much quicker.

At level 20 you're more likely to make it safely to Ashenvale than through the level 30-40 mobs that wander very near the road in Stranglethorn Vale. As for distance, hiking STV is no short trip either. Even though the NPC spot is east of Camp Taurajo coming in to Ratchet on a PvP server at level 20 is pretty much just asking for a ganking ;)

Walking through Dustwallow Marsh at level 20 is pretty suicidal too given the level of the mobs but at least they don't hang out too close to the roads. Definitely a shorter walk by far on all counts so long as you can make i through Dustwallow. I went through Ashenvale when I did this quest line but i might have given Theramore a try had i thought of it.

Crossroads??
Posted: Aug 22nd 2005 7:15am | IP: Logged | Reply to this
The Crossroads is the Horde town in the North Middle of The Barrens. It is named as such because it is where the Gold Road (running from Ashenvale to 1000 Needles) intersects with the road going from Ratchet to Stonetalon Mountains. No Alliance should ever have to run through the Crossroads, unless they are Raiding it, you can just run around it being very careful if you are on a PvP Realm. From your description of this "left gate" I believe you are referring to the Mor'shan Rampart, the Horde guard outpost on the border of Ashenvale and The Barrens. At this place you would want to go to the ruined left fence where there are no guards (you would think by now the Horde would have seen that the fence needed mending, or at least a guard or two).

Also, when they are on the Southern Gold Road and see the sign for Camp Taurajo, turn east, the tent is over in Bramblescar. Do not go into Camp T on the road west heading to Mulgore (35th level Horde guards don't take kindly to 20th level Alliance Warlocks entering their camp).

Not flaming, just clarifying.
