Valor, also known as Virtus, is a mainly North American endgame linkshell on Midgardsormr, one of the servers for Final Fantasy XI. We were first started on the 27th of March, 2004, with the first batch of North American players to hit endgame-ready levels. Over the years we have gradually and steadily, despite many setbacks, progressed from simple NMs to some of the largest HNMs currently in the game, as well as being active in many other endgame activities.
History~
Valor was founded when our first leader, Trenholm, wanted to create a endgame linkshell that would be more than just a place where high levels could gather to plunder Vana'diel for precious items. He wanted an endgame linkshell that would be first and foremost a family and community, and idealized a safe haven for all who were in it. It was with this goal in mind that he founded the linkshell, a small and closely-knit group of friends who had grown up together and wanted to discover endgame together. Because of Trenholm's ideals, the linkshell never established a points system back in the day and even now still does not use one.
Gradually, the linkshell began to grow, and maintained a steady upward climb through many growing pains along the way. The unconventional approach to running an endgame shell only compounded the difficulties, and as the linkshell grew, so did the amount of issues that needed to be solved. Eventually, when Trenholm had to attend to real-life issues and left the game, leadership was passed to Discordian, who was one of the first officers of the linkshell.
Virtus~
On the 12th of June, 2006, the original Valor linkshell item from over 2 years ago was finally broken and the linkshell was renamed Virtus, under Discordian as a true shellholder from then on, without the need to depend on Trenholm's account for further administrative duties. Out of custom, however, many members still refer to the linkshell by its old name Valor.
Today~
Valor is still going strong today under the continued leadership of Discordian, as well as the officers that help run the linkshell, Damac and Sidd. Our memberlist comprises both veterans from our long history and new members who invigorate the linkshell. We do not restrict ourselves to any particular endgame activities but tackle them all, actively scheduling all available endgame events: Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, Einherjar, Sky, Sea, and field HNMs. To date, the linkshell has three relics upgraded: Excalibur (Discordian), Gjallarhorn (Lindstrom), and Annihilator (Roush), with more being considered. We are adventure-hungry and enjoy new patches, expansions and updates that bring with them more challenges for us to plunder together.
Valor members do not just engage in endgame activities; we also often have fun together in other aspects of Vana'diel life - crafting, partying, ENMs, BCNMs, etc. Ventrilo is open for all members to use and listen in as they wish. Sackholders
Being in Valor:
Valor members are not to steal, bot, buy gil, and/or use 3rd party programs to cheat.
Valor members are only allowed to have one endgame shell, which is Valor. No exceptions. We will require that you join us for Dynamis and other similar events as well, so take that into consideration if you have another shell that participates in these activities. However, you may have any number of social linkshells as long as you spend sufficient time with Valor for our events and other activities.
Valor currently does not have a points system. If you specifically want a linkshell with a points system at this time, Valor might not be for you. Officers decide who ra/ex loot goes to, and non ra/ex items may be: given out on the spot as with ra/ex loot, or sent to the linkshell bank for distributing at a later date once officers have decided that certain members have earned this loot or are in need of it. If it is a valuable crafting ingredient that is needed, it will be sent to the linkshell bank and either given out, or crafted into a usable item for members at later date.
Valor members must attend mandatory events.
All events are mandatory unless an officer announces and asks for names of those who wish to participate. Items you receive from the linkshell are considered yours as you have earned them, and the choice of returning them because of any circumstances are up to you. However, even though they are considered 'yours', selling linkshell-received items is strongly discouraged. They should be seen as gifts from the linkshell for you to use, symbols of the linkshell's hard work for you, not gil for your pocket.
Valor uses Ventrilo (voice chat program); however minimal planning goes on in Ventrilo so members who are unable to use the program can still refer to forums or ingame for linkshell planning and issues.
At endgame events, especially at HNM camps, Valor members are expected to: Conduct themselves well and be good sports,
Refuse participation in public channels that have the potential to lead to endgame inter-linkshell disputes and leave the speaking to the officers to handle.
Follow instructions efficiently and quickly, and If they have any disagreement with the instructions being given, to query and clarify with the presiding officers at said event before acting on their own.
If members have any queries or questions about the linkshell's policies, the bank, their role in the linkshell, etc, they are encouraged to clarify with the officers privately about it.
We do not restrict ourselves to any particular endgame activities but tackle them all, actively scheduling all available endgame events: Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, Einherjar, Sky, Sea, and field HNMs.
Valor has varying degrees of availability for new members, and our needs differ from time to time. Therefore, whether or not your application gets taken into consideration can depend on who and what jobs we have active at the time. As of right now:
