'Goblin Mine' Update to Add Mini-Game, Epic Quests

Runes of Magic players should mark July 28 on their calendar, because that's the day new content will be added to the game in the "Secret of the Goblin Mine" update. The patch will include a new daily mini-game, an epic weapon quest series and the ability to cultivate plants in your home.

The "Goblin Mine" mini-game is a solo adventure that forces you to perform three tasks in a monster-filled dungeon in 30 minutes. If you complete the tasks, you'll get rare armor recipes and hand-crafted items. Check out this teaser video on the official Web site, as well as some screenshots in our gallery.

As for the epic weapon quest series, it will be difficult, but you'll be able to earn some legendary weapons by defeating opponents. You can check out the weapons in this screenshot. We mentioned the plant system back in April, but now you'll finally be able to harvest your own plants. You can read more about the update below.

Frogster Releases Map of Areas Coming in Expansion

As you may know, "Chapter II - The Elven Prophecy" is set to launch in September, with some content being released in August in preparation for the release of the first free expansion for Runes of Magic. Well, Frogster today revealed a map of all the new areas you'll get the explore, and you can view it here.

You'll see the Weeping Coast in northeast Taboria, which Frogster previously announced. The zone is set to go live in August, and you can read our previous article for information on the territory and to view a preview video. As for the other zones, the Savage Lands is surrounded by a rainforest and is the home of the Elves; the lava-spewing Aotulia Volcano has also been called "Claw of the Demon Dragon," which suggests there's an enemy hidden in the mountain; and Elven Island serves as the starting area for players who decide to try out the new playable race.

You can read more about the territories after the jump.

RoM Releases Information On Two New Classes

Two new classes have are being introduced in the second chapter of the Runes of Magic expansion, "The Elven Prophecy." Within this expansion, Frogster (the developer of RoM) will finally be allowing players to create an Elven character with two unique classes to choose from: The Warden and the Druid. The Runes of Magic website notes that the Druids "use the dormant powers within them and use these to build up ‘Nature’s Power.’" By using this this power, the Druid can increase his abilities or add effects to them. Frogster notes that Druids "will have to consider most exactly the sequence in which they use their abilities in order to achieve the best possible effects." Finally, the Druid will be able to choose if he wishes to be a defensive healer and supporter for his team, or an offensive spell caster.

The Warden will have the ability to call upon spirits of nature, and these spirits will, in turn, support the Warden. They also note that the Warden will have the power to " strengthen both them and their comrades-in-arms and form a useful support in combined battles." No Warden will be without his or trusty plant companion!

The Second Chapter is ue to come out in September, and you can also read about the lore behind these two classes at the Runes of Magic website, here.

Runes of Magic Item Giveaway

Our friends at Frogster America must think we're getting cold feet about Runes of Magic because they just sent us 10,000 pairs of Jade Warrior's Boots. We only need a couple so we're giving away the rest!

Instead of making you jump through hoops, we've decided to give the boots to the first 10,000 people who visit this page. The only thing we're asking is that you check out our Runes of Magic wiki and give us a hand. We've been working hard to build a wiki template for the Runes of Magic community, now all we need is you to help us fill it with in-game information.

Click here to receive the unique code for your new boots. To redeem the code, visit the redemption section of Runes of Magic website and follow the instructions. Remember, you don't have to be level 20 to utilize the item. With the Arcane Transmutor, the stats can be stripped off with a power stone, creating a mana stone with the stats of the gear. The boots will be destroyed in the process but you can then combine the mana stone with 2 others of the same level and an item, to put stats on any piece of gear.

Enjoy your boots and make sure to give our Runes of Magic wiki some love.

Frogster Releases Information on Elves

We've known since Frogster's announcement at E3 that elves will be introduced as a playable race in Runes of Magic once "Chapter II — The Elven Prophecy" launches in September, but the company just posted a more in-depth article on the entrance of the race into Taborea on the game's Web site.

Here's some information from the article: "After having lived in secrecy for ages, the elves are surrounded by an aura of mystery and aloofness. Nevertheless they are considered as one of Taborea’s oldest peoples. Because of their particular affinity with nature, the elves are mostly to be found in the remote and undisturbed areas of Taborea’s large forests." You can read the entire post after the jump.

Also, we've added seven elven screenshots to our gallery. Be sure to check them out if you're considering playing an elf in September.
