EverQuest II Live, commonly referred to as either "EQ2", "EQ2 Live" or "EQ2 Legacy", is a normal paid subscription model service. Players can choose from a standard $15/month subscription plan, or one of the 3, 6 or 12 month plans instead.
EverQuest II Extended, or "EQ2X", is a free-to-play service with optional subscription plans. The EQ2X Extended matrix works as such: Bronze level is completely free-to-play (but with many restrictions), Silver level is a one-time $10 fee to unlock a few extra features than Bronze, Gold level is a $15/month subscription plan that unlocks most of the game features and Platinum level is a yearly plan that unlocks all of the game's features.
Active SOE All Access accounts have full access to EQ2 Live and Gold level access to EQ2X. [1]
We've made a list of the differences between the services and the various featured offered by the game. The information is valid as of 6/28/2011.
