I used to kill Skrietat'Cha and Chu many times while I was exploring Luclin with my level 45 Ranger. This was many months ago. Today I've been totally OWNED by the EASIEST of the two, Skrietat'Chu, which was conning light blue to my ;level _46_ Ranger.
My Ranger itsn't exactly uber but wielding a Axe of Venom Brood thingy and a Centi SS along with 850 ish AC should be doing the trick, what with all the buffs on.
I had even crappier gear when I hunted these months ago, and while they were tuff, they were fairly straightforward when properly prepared.
So... these guys MUST have been seriously buffed up during the revamp.
I'm really dusgusted. Has a ridiculous AC, instead of hitting in the 35's like every mob I hit Chu for like 15 average, and he hits me anywahere between 30 and 92 !!
Just to clear drops up...Chu drops circlet, earring and named sword (stats are crap but sells to vendors for 200pp)...Cha drops eye, earring and beak. Allakhazam's loot listings are not accurate on these two.
It spawns in the owlbear caves, far north. Loc is 3537, 1983. Just like with Cha, spawn time is 12 minutes and the surrounding ones respawn every minute.
Yes, the Owlbear Fleshrenders around Chu and Cha respawn almost immediately (1 or 2 minutes), so they're very hard to clear out of the way. However, the Chu and Cha sites each have two owlbears with a longer respawn (about 12 minutes). At each site, one is the named owlbear or his placeholder and the other is just a regular Owlbear Fleshrender with a longer respawn time. When going after the named owlbears, it's usually good to take down the other long spawn first in case the named owlbear retreats through him and you get him as an add. The other 1-minute owlbears are usually not worth taking out, as they will likely repop during your fight with the named owlbear.
Incidently, if you enter the caves and have to clear owlbears to find Chu or Cha, the respawn rate is the tipoff. Only two owlbears at each site are on the long timer, while the rest seem to be on the quick timer. We used this technique to find Chu's spawn spot.
Hehe, do you not know of the War? Periodically a war starts between the 3 races. Players help the attackers by killing off defenders. The race that takes all 3 camps win. Then all the spawns in the area are of the victorious race for a period of time, I assume until the zone resets. It is rather dissapointing to get set on getting your Perfect pelt, just to discover that there are only sonic wolves or grimlings around.
I can only get the earring, the eye, and the beak to drop from 'Cha. I've killed it numerous times. Wonder if the circlet only drops from 'Chu? Will give it a try...
Am I the only one which noticed their names are just derivations of Screetch at you and Screetch at ya? Just kinda funny since they are owls and can stun with their voice. hehe wonder which verant programmer was up late thinking up these names. Least they could have done was look up the genus name in any onithology book and come up with better names. Does not even have the campy adam west batman cache of Bait Masterson in Freeport.
Both these are very good, but I prefer to hunt the one in the left chamber, me and some guildies have camped the caves for a few days, and we have gotten 2 owlbear beaks, about 8 earrings, 3 preserved eyes, 1 Urmiir and 1 circlet. Id say the only really nice, useful pieces are the eye and the beak, mostly because my cleric alt doesnt have anything in his range slot, and 4 wis is better than nothing, and I am working on getting a beak for my rogue. I also got gowlick a few times, and we all got jawbones and i got a mantle for my cleric, the elder wolf hide, also a nice upgrade from the lizardscale it has 4 wis plus a whole lot better AC and stats.

'Chu and 'Cha drop seperate things. Every time I run through the zone, unless I'm in a hurry, I take a swing by to see if they're up, so I can confirm which drops off which beastie, 'Chu and 'Cha.
'Chu drops the following:
- Urmiir, the Sword of Beast Slaying (8/24 1hs. Grahpic in inventory looks like SSOY but when equipped looks like katana. Sells to merchants with good faction and reasonable CHA [84] for 230pp)
- Owlbear Claw Earring (AC2 DEX+3 INT+2 WIS+2 HP+10, graphic is same as a mino horn or mammoth horn. Very nice for druids and shaman)
- Black Feather Circlet (AC5 wt1 INT+2 WIS+2 MANA+20, 3 charges of levitate. Graphic in inventory looks like Foreman's Cap; when equipped does not show graphic on head)
The Brain drops off the Prince which is spawned by killing the owlbears out on the Moor, not in the caves.
The Preserved Owlbear Eye and the Owlbear Beak drop off 'Cha, who spawns in the left-hand chamber.
'Chu spawns in the right-hand chamber of the very back two chambers of the owlbear cave. His spawn rate is approximately 20 minutes and the placeholder is the same as all the other owlbears in the cave, a fleshrender. His PH'er is the owlbear in the little dip behind the rock.
I find it is easier to take down 'Chu than 'Cha. (I am currently 47 ranger).
Im a 50 warrior and I go through about 1/4-1 bubble of life per fleshrender, seein how these arent much higher I said you wont have to much problems...aside form killing the PH's to get them to spawn...
So far I've camped em for awhile and he dropped the earring, the Owlbear Beak, and some no drop brain. I havent seen any such thing as a Sword of Beast Slaying.
No offense Skrietat'Chu, but you owlbears have got to be the ugliest looking creatures in the known universe. You are a feathered bear that screams at people and stuns them. You should be locked away in an air tight box and thrown to the bottom of the Ocean of Tears.
A map of the nexus??? Do you get lost there??? Anyway, just click on the link to the left for Luclin (under Zones), then click Nexus, then EQ Atlas Map and Guide to the Nexus, then click on the thumbnail image
