Recipes can be purchased from supply merchants. If you do not already have the recipe in your recipes list, then it is automatically taken from your inventory and scribed. A duplicate purchase of an already known recipe will simply place the recipe in your inventory. Some recipes are given to you free during the Chef, Miner and Blacksmith quest series.
