Information About Fellowships

Here is some additional information about another featured due out with The Buried Sea expansion, Fellowships (as seen on EQLive):

What’s new in The Buried Sea, Fellowships!

On those heavy raid nights everyone is usually raiding with their guildmates, but what do they do during the raiding downtimes? Many people find themselves grouping with friends from other guilds and people that might not have a guild.

Fellowships are a form of mini-guild that can co-exist with normal guilds and support a maximum of 9 members. They are aimed at all players, but are particularly aimed at players who have a group of friends they play with consistently.

Features of Fellowships
The basic fellowship structure is very similar to that of a guild. Players that are in the same fellowship will share a special fellowship channel and have access to easy travel to other members of the fellowship.

Fellowship Channel
Similar to guild chat, members who are in a fellowship together will have access to a fellowship chat channel that is permanently active on their characters and only accessible by other members of that fellowship.

Campfires
Once a fellowship has been created, any three members of a fellowship can work together to create a campfire; one member will create the campfire and two other members are required to be nearby. Once a campfire has been created, it serves as a teleport destination for members of that fellowship.

In addition, the campfire be upgraded to provide aura effects to fellowship members who are near it. These upgraded campfires are expendable and, once used, will only last for a period of time before they have to be repurchased. All campfires will last for one hour or until the fellowship discards it.

Only one campfire can exist in the world per fellowship at any particular time. Trying to create a new campfire while one already exists will give an error message. The person who created a campfire can remove the campfire at any time from anywhere in the world. In addition, campfires will naturally fade away after one hour.

Fellowship Emblems
When a player creates or joins a fellowship, they gain a fellowship token. This token marks their membership to the faction and enables them to teleport to the fellowship's campfire if the player is eligible for access to the area where the campfire exists. If a player loses their token, they can return to the fellowship merchant and purchase a new one without having to reapply to the fellowship. The teleportation function is disabled in areas were teleportation is restricted.

Creating a Fellowship
To create a fellowship, players must journey to a particular NPC in the Plane of Knowledge. This NPC will take payment from the players in return for creating a fellowship with the players who are in the group at the time. Everyone in the group must be in the zone and must accept entry to the fellowship. At least three people must accept for the fellowship to be created at all. The person who initiates the creation of the fellowship will be considered the leader of the fellowship. The leader of a fellowship can add and remove members by visiting a fellowship NPC.

Joining an Existing Fellowship
If there is an open spot in the fellowship, a player can join by going to the fellowship creation NPC along with the leader of the fellowship to obtain a fellowship token.

We wanted you and your friends to have an easier way of setting up your casual groups. Fellowships are designed for that purpose.

Made the following changes to Guild Banners and Fellowship Campfires in an effort to improve their usability and the desirability of the buffs they grant:
- - Consolidated all buffs and tiers into a single 'empowered' banner/campfire that grants the combined effects of all the previous options; with the ability to choose whether you want the empowered banner/campfire to also offer an illusion effect.
- - Increased the duration of the empowered banner/campfire from 1 hour to 6 hours to match the duration of the non-empowered version.
- - Increased the distance that the empowered banner/campfire will grant its buff from 100 to 1000 feet.
- - Simplified the various tiers and types of banner/campfire components down to 2 items: 'Guild Banner Materials' and 'Fellowship Campfire Materials'.
- - Items previously used as banner/campfire components have been flagged as deprecated and have been changed to allow you to sell them back to a merchant to recoup their initial value.

Fellowships: A Fellowship is like a mini-guild for those who play together regularly. Fellowships have a maximum of six players and exist in addition to guilds. All members of the Fellowship get a token, access to a Fellowship-only channel, and the ability to create campfires when at least three "fellows" are in the same area. Fellows use their tokens to transport directly to the campfire allowing them to catch up with their regular playmates quickly. Campfires can be upgraded to provide effects to nearby Fellows. These upgrades are expendable and need to be repurchased. A Fellowship can only have one campfire active at a time. Randall of the Fellows in the Plane of Knowledge will register Fellowships. Fellowship items are also available for sale in the Plane of Knowledge.

"must journey to a particlar NPC in the PoK". That's clear as mud. Can someone please tell me the name, location and the amount of money needed by each player to start a fellowship. Guildy told me that the guy was near the PoT portal but I've checked in all the adjacent buildings and no one seems to fit the description.. Please enlighten me. thanks. Lizzy

I have searched and searched and still haven't been able to find out the name and location of the NPC that you talk to to start a fellowship; all I know is that he is in PoK. A guildy told me he was in the building next to the PoT portal but I checked everyone in the adjacent building and no one fit that description. Someone please help. Thanks
Neat

I don't see anything about tokens being lore . . only campfires having a duration, so by reading the above it would appear someone could belong to multiple fellowships. It will be interesting to see how this really works as opposed to how it was intended.
Wha?

I'm a little confused. Does this allow you to essentially group with up to 9 people? Or is it limited to campfires and a chat channel?

Allowing group sharing XP to up to 9 would be excellent.... Giving a minor aura bonus, a chat channel and a port is still neat but rather lackluster.

We run a regular small guild night... Often we have more than 6 people but far fewer than any raid. The mix of toons is such that you can't really form two groups to do anything useful so someone always winds up sitting out.
Good idea,

Good idea yeah. But only 9 people.. Guess will have to wait and see how it goes. I'd like it better if perhaps 15'ish people. But then again can't make everyone happy.

First off, let me say awesome. This has been one of the worst weeks of my life and that just made me smile a bit. Yeah Feb 13th is a really bad time, wish they would make it a month off from V-day at least. I'm just curious as to how all this will work out and if they are gonna keep at it to make sure it isn't bugged and doesn't stay bugged forever. This is gonna be one of the expansions in the past couple years I can't buy at release, so will have to learn about it all from forums. Hope it all works as intended.

I am on the CT server, and run my own family guild. BUT I have a few very close (in game) friends that are members of SR and TR.

We group alot while the guilds are not raiding and its very obvious that they are not going to leave TR or SR to join my guild (I have nothing to offer that compares to those guilds).

So this will be a good thing for us.

I am usally on 30 or so minutes before them along with my wife. We can go setup a campfire and start clearing a camp, when the other 3 get on they can just port right to us and not have to run it like they have been doing.

Now if they will just give details on this new inventory slot and the power sources that you put in there we will be ready for the expansion release next week.

Peace

P.S. releasing on Feb 13 is kinda bad, heheeh Valentines day is the next morning.. dont forget guys flowers and candy for the lady or she will forget about March 14th. (If you dont know about march 14th, here )

wow no bad talk yet...time to get my good word in then :-)

Just before anyone goes to badmouth this part of the upcoming expansion, like some people seem to be doing every part of it so far...This is a Good thing!

I'm not going to state my views on any other parts of this expansion yet, because, well, I haven't experienced it yet. How about the negative people that just like to complain about every little thing that doesn't fit them to a 'T' wait until the expansion comes out and Then base your decision off of that.

Basically I think this is a great idea because it lets players that have made/become/been friends with others in game, but are in diff guilds, stay in better contact with eachother.

Give it a shot people... /rant off
