???"Welome to the SOFTWARE indutstry"???
I know this is a really old thread but....
I played Played eq beta...last day..everything was still broken...take player and system errors out of the equation....Quests were broken...servers were cheap and placed under far to heavy a load, UUNET went down alot(UUNET not thier problem)collision detection was completely screwed up (instead fo fixing the falling out of the graphics the just gave you a message that you fell 10bagillion feet and died) ..the list goes on and on... AT Release almost ALL the bugs were STILL there...I wasted alot of time filling out bug reports, as did everyone else of was playing open beta huh...
Sony cut Sony Interactive off...I mean from more money..they HAD to release the game AS IS knowing it was not ready..they sold a crappy product to beat others to the jump...Mythic and other small companies had to be pushed out...They did not care that people randomly fell through the graphics or would lose bodies in lava or that the game dynamics or map bugs could be easily exploited, all they cared about was the bottom line...very little was done about game problems but instead they spent thier money making more buggy crap that they knew they could sell....other programs and games have problems yes..but nothing before and very few PAY titles after can compare at failure in function...EQ did so well because they were the only thing out there..ashron's call and later DAOC came along (they ran quite well) but just could not put out the advertising cash or the ability to quickly clone the efforts of smaller companies that began to do well..time after time I would see features in other games of EQ's genre come out then go back and talk to friend about the game I have been playing for a few months and then discover everything good about my new game JUST come out in the latest expansion of EQ...Take a Look at Anarchy Online's Quest System, Check it out for yourself..then Go on an LDON quest OMG they even ripped off Interface ideas (wonder if code was similar, maybe they ripped that off too). Marketing Drives Sony(Sony Interactive, 989, SOE)It does not matter to them if they are producing a quality product...Please dont compliment them for a "Job Well Done" when all they did well was convince everyone that EQ was the best thing out there...its goes right along with how they have continued to promote Nvidia(cause they bought their other kickback company 3DFX that put out crap too)..Almost every game I play has some technical issue that I have to look up a fix to..ATI will have ONE or TWO biggies..Nvidia will have a LLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG LIST of issues fixed on this patch, broke again after this, issue solved with this driver update and that same driver update had dozens of NEW issues for the same version of the same game....yet people has had all this corporate BS(propaganda)heaped on them they believe it ...Look I am just angry so I will not GO ON..BUT let me stop digressing and get to the point..If you just love the Game as I did ( I went back several times) then play it...dont compliment them for doing a good job of programming it its not really a good job at all, when they did not even try, or for the development of game concepts or Content when alot of the new stuff is straight RIP OFF of lesser know work...Play EQ or Now EQ2 in spite of its shortcoming dont make excuses for them
