WildStar: Relearning the Trinity
Cyglaive discusses what to expect with WildStar's use of the "Holy Trinity"
Bringing It All Together
So what does this all mean? If, after you finished reading this, you were to tell me that WildStar sounds like it will definitely have a steeper learning curve compared to other MMOs, I would agree with you 100%. If you’ve read my Combat Q&A Roundtable discussion from last September then you know that the Carbine developers are embracing this concept.
Personally, I feel like it’s been too long since an MMORPG has dared you to learn something new and make you stumble a bit along the way. However, before this turns into a “back in the good old days” rant, I want to say that I don’t necessarily think the answer to making good games is by going backwards. I think the answer lies more along the lines of forging ahead to create new systems and improve on previous ones, which is exactly what WildStar seems to be doing. Taking familiar and outdated systems and moving them in a direction that has the player making spur of the moment decisions in combat, communicating with their group and learning something new every step of the way.
Will there be players who have absolutely no issues with this system? Of course. Will there be players who struggle with this from day one? Definitely. If you’re a player who’s struggling, I suggest going out and finding a group or guild that is willing to show you the ropes. If you do that, then soon enough you’ll find yourself passing down your own knowledge to someone else in need because, after all, progressing from the "Zero" to the "Legendary Hero" is what it means to play a RPG.
I hope you enjoyed my WildStar Holy Trinity insight. I’m interested to hear what you all think, so feel free to leave a comment below! And, as always, keep it locked to ZAM for all of your WildStar news, information and updates.
See you on Nexus!
