12 Days of Gaming: Eight Wild Races
For the eighth day of gaming Cyglaive checks out the eight races of WildStar!
Races of the Exiles
The Granok
To the Dominion, the choice of join us or be obliterated seemed perfectly reasonable. However, the Granok chose a third option, to shoot the Mechari ambassador in the face. You can imagine the Dominion didn’t take very kindly to this option created by the Granok and, in return, declared war on the Granok home world of planet Gnox.
At first the Granok were outmatched by the technological superiority the dominion possessed. After all, while the Granok were indeed great fighters, they were what some would consider one of the more primitive races of the galaxy. That is until a brave warrior by the name of Durek led several expeditions to steal some of the Dominion’s own firepower and use it against them.
This change in tactics dramatically altered the tide of the war and turned it in favor the Granok. Finally, after many lives had been lost on both sides, the Granok managed to push back the Dominion and force its retreat from planet Gnox. However, this victory came with a price. Because Durek and the warriors who followed him broke the rules and traditions of the Granok people by using Dominion firepower, they were banished from the planet and forced to remain in Exile.
Later, the banished Granok would join the humans Exiles in the fight for planet Nexus and a chance to settle the score with the Dominion once and for all.
The Humans
As the Dominion grew in number so too did its rules, its politics and also its lust for power and total dominance. Many citizens were uneasy with some of the Dominion’s more “heavy-handed” policies and chose to openly protest against them. This all came to a tragic turn for the worst when Dominion enforcers fired on its own citizens in an attempt to end the uprising.
In response to this, one of the Dominions own admirals, Serrick Brightland, rebelled against his commanders and used his own warship, the Star of Dominus, as he led Cassian rebels in open rebellion against the empire. And while the admiral succeeded in winning many early battles, his resources were quickly diminished and the full might of the Dominion finally caught up with him. In one final battle and against all odds, Serrick Brightland managed to pull off an unexpected suicidal maneuver that broke the Dominion formation and enabled him to escape Dominion grasp and lead his people to freedom.
After the renaming of the Star of Dominus to the “Gambler’s Ruin” and joining up with the banished Granok warriors, the now Exile traveled the fringe in search of a new home.
A human Exile, Dorian Walker, was actually the one to discover planet Nexus. To the humans, Nexus represents a place to call home; a home worth fighting for.
The Mordesh
The story of the Mordesh is a tale of tragedy. This once proud, majestic and scientific race was poised to join the Dominion after having been extended the glorious offer. That is until all went wrong on the planet. A scientist, Victor Lazarin, had created an immortality potion dubbed; the Everlife Elixir. Word spread of its creation and before long, nearly everyone on the planet had consumed this immortality bestowing substance. Unfortunately no one was prepared for what came next. While the elixir did grant them immortality, it came at a terrible price that took the form of a degenerative disease known as the “Contagion”. The Contagion spread throughout the planet, turning all infected by it into mindless flesh eating zombies.
After acknowledging the weight of his actions, Victor Lazarin used all of his remaining resources to find a cure to counter act the Contagion. Eventually the Vitalus Serum was created. While this didn’t cure the contagion's effects completely, it did help keep it at bay as long as the fluid ran through the body of the host.
Once the Vitalus Serum reached more survivors of the deadly contagion a call for help went out to the Dominion. However, instead of helping them the Dominion quarantined the planet and terminated all who tried to leave its surface. The Mordesh were betrayed and left to suffer on the planet until the Exile fleet showed up. After launching many covert rescue operations, the Exiles were able to save many of the Mordesh who had survived the contagion and because of this; the Mordesh swore loyalty to the Exiles.
To the Mordesh, planet Nexus represents a hope to finding a cure for the Contagion and showing the Dominion that they don’t take betrayal lightly.
The Aurin
The gentle Aurin of Arboria had always known peace, that is, until the Dominion showed up.
After helping the fleeing Exiles escape the clutches of the Dominion, the Aurin themselves were now prime targets for the Dominion’s wrath. Their once peaceful home world filled with lush, green forests was about to become a battlefield. And when the Dominion attacked, the Aurin fought bravely but they were no match for the strength of the Dominion military.
In a desperate attempt to save her people, Queen Myala Everstar, sent out a distress signal to the Exiles they had helped free, hoping they would return the favor. With her faith having been well-placed, the Exiles came to the rescue and helped evacuate some of the remaining Aurin on the planet.
While some of her people had to be left behind, Queen Myala sees planet Nexus as a way to gather strength for her people and pay back the Dominion in hopes of one day being able to return to her planet and save her people.
And that about wraps it up, I hope you all enjoyed this WildStar lore edition of ZAM’s 12 Days of Gaming. Happy holidays from me to all of you out there and we look forward to seeing you in 2014! And as always,
I’ll see you on Nexus!
