TUG: Wish You Were Here?
A look at the Kickstarter for TUG
Gamers love MMORPGs. And gamers love Minecraft. So what would happen if someone combined the two along with features from Monster Hunter, Eve Online, Animal Crossing and more?
At it's core, TUG is a game about choice. You choose how and what you craft, build and research. You choose how your character lives; as an exlporer, a warrior or even a simple merchant. You choose what mods you install, or how you set up your servers. Heck, you can even choose the UI, if you even want one at all!
TUG boasts a great deal of seamless environmental interaction, as players are thrust into a strange new land as a "Seed"; a near-human child without any skills or defenses. First, players must learn to survive. As they progress and gain in strength, they can start to uncover the mysteries that the land holds. From searching ancient ruins for treasure, to trading rare resources, to helping build a civilisation, TUG has an awful lot to offer players.
The latest update outlines how servers will essentially be their own islands of different sizes, with you able to have private servers and single player servers as well as the official servers.
The amount of flexibility and variation that there will be across these different "islands" of the game looks very exciting, promising wildly varying environments to explore.
To emphasize the flexibility in the game, the update also looks at modding, with the TUG team having brought in some real knowledge from the modding community:
"We took it so seriously that we even got some creators onboard from some amazing mods and textures in Minecraft, such as Kingbdogz, creator of the Aether; Azanor, creator of Thaumcraft; and BDcraft’s creator, Sphax."
If TUG sounds like a game you'd love to sink your teeth into, be sure to head over to the Kickstarter page for the full lowdown (there's way too much to cover fully here!) as well as to donate some money towards the game's release. But don't delay as there's only 7 days left!
