EVE Online: Go Toe to Toe

EVE introduces legal dueling as another way to settle capsuleers' differences.

Let's take this outside...

When Retribution 1.1 hits EVE Online February 12, among the host of changes will be a very intriguing addition: dueling.

Instead of "stealing with consent" to flag and engage an opponent for the type of duels hitherto performed in game, capsuleers will be able to test their load out and skill one-on-one without fear of interference form the local authorities -- though that doesn't stop the local ratters jumping in, of course.

The new dev blog from CCP Masterplan outlines how the duels will be initiated. But those used to duels in other MMOs will not be taken aback by any of the rules, Simply ask to duel a player in a space station or out in the same sector, wait for their acceptance and make sure your missiles are loaded.

With plans to expand the system, with fleet to fleet duels being mentioned as desirable already, CCP is looking for suggestions on where this could go.

Dueling did originate with the players after all.

Let us and CCP know what you would like to see develop in EVE's dueling. For me, I'd say putting ISK wagers on the outcome. Muhahaha.

This begs the question.

How far do duels go? In many MMOs dueling cuts off when a participant would be killed by the latest blow received, but in EVE Online ships explode. On the one hand duels are just that, duels, but on the other hand both game mechanic and the community would make dueling any way but to the (ship) death next to impossible.
This begs the question.

First player to take structure damage loses is how I've seen duels done before
