Scheduling The Lost Shores
Guild Wars 2 November content gets a timetable
Guild Wars 2 community leader Martin Kerstein is up to his old tricks again.
Yesterday, he stopped by the official Guild Wars 2 forums to let players know that the November event previously teased - The Lost Shores - is coming, and posted a schedule to prove it! Everything kicks off next Friday:
- On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
-
On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time.
Kerstein goes on to say that there will be a big finale on Sunday, November 18th that you don't want to miss. While the content outlined previously will be avilable to all players throughout the event, he emphasizes this is a one-time only event. Sounds like he's serious:
"This will be a one-time only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there!"
While these one-time events are awesome, and no MMO gamer I know complains of having new content, they're not free of controversy. Some folks simply cannot be online during the events, despite being given a heads-up. Developer Josh Foreman explained how they decide when to run the events:
"We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency."
Personally, I like the organic nature of an event happening and a story unfolding even if I'm not there to witness it. I feel similarly about the new Brawler's Guild in World of Warcraft, which is an exclusive, invite only (or high cost of entry) event.
At any rate, it sounds like it's time to get the Hot Pockets and Red Bull ready for next weekend!
