Earth No More
3D Realms Returns with a new FPS on a crowdfunding site
Over the last year, we've seen the return of many of the old-guard PC game developers through the power of crowd-sourced funding: Obsidian, Jane Jensen, Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, etc. Today adds another name to the list: 3D Realms, better known as the creators of Duke Nukem and the original developers of Duke Nukem Forever before Gearbox took over.
The listing for 3D Realms' new property, Earth No More, on crowd-sourcing site Gambitious is sparse at the moment since the project hasn't gone live yet, giving only a description of "Mankind's relentless destruction of Earth awakens a biological response from deep within the planet's crust that threatens an environmental apocalypse".
Eurogamer, the original source for this story, was able to dig a little deeper with Gambitious and found out the game will be a collaboration between 3D Realms and another unnamed developer.
For those wondering "Why Gambitious instead of Kickstarter?", there are two possible reasons. The first being that Gambitious is set up for fans as well as investors, since you can go for the traditional donation/pledge route or you can give equity if you're trying to court some larger investments. The second reason would be that the founder of 3D Realms, Scott Miller, is one of five members of Gambitious' advisory board.
I'd lean more towards the latter.
