ZAM Searches for Rare Items in Cataclysm

Staff Writer Paul "LockeColeMA" Cleveland reveals some of the hard to find pets, weapons and mounts in the latest World of Warcraft expansion.

Pets (continued)

Outside of questing there are several other sources for rare pets. One of the rarest is likely the Elementium Geode found by miners. It is very rarely found in Elementium and Rich Elementium veins, and luckily is Bind of Equip and thus sellable at the Auction House. Other tradeskill-related sellable pets include the Deweaponized Mechanical Companion made by Gnomish Engineers; the Personal World Destroyer made by Goblin Engineers; and the Magic Lamp and Enchanted Lantern made by enchanters. The Lamp's recipe is Alliance only, and the Lantern's is Horde only, but the items themselves can be freely traded on the neutral Auction House.

The last place for rare pets is from rare spawns. Three pets in particular come to mind. The first is a drop off a neutral enemy level 85 players pass daily: the Fox Kit, which is a very rare drop from the Baradin Foxes in Tol Barad (North). The drop rate is tiny (estimated at 1/1000 right now), and there are only 16 spawns for the foxes; however, they do respawn quickly, and no one but pet collectors or animal torturers would kill these mobs! The second pet is just what you always wanted... a slimy, disgusting worm named Mr. Grubbs. This pet rarely is found in Hidden Stashes that drop off enemies in the Eastern Plaguelands while the player has the buff “Fiona's Lucky Charm.” The buff is only available after doing quests for Fiona at her caravan, but once you have it, word on the street is the best way to farm for the pet is to upset the graves in Zul'Mashar and AoE down the zombies.

The final pet is hard to reach and heavily camped. Say hello the Tiny Shale Spider, a pet that drops off the rare Jadefang in Deepholm. Reaching the area where the spider is found is difficult enough, and requires the use of rocket boots, sprinting potions, or the item from the Therazane daily quest “Underground Economy,” in order to be blown up to a ledge in the Crumbling Depths. The enemy itself is heavily camped by hunters who want the unique spider as a pet, so best of luck investing the time to get this!

Minor factual error about archaeology.

It is not necessary to create every common artifact before getting a repeat. In fact it's quite common to create the same artifact a bunch of times before you complete the full list.

For my part, I was lucky enough for the Canopic Jar to be the second Tol'vir artifact I worked on, and it contained the recipe (which I crafted a month or so later). My fourth artifact from them was also a Canopic Jar (which just contained trash) and I am far from completing the full list for Tol'vir.

Otherwise cool article. I wasn't completely sure about how the Phosphorescent Stone Drake worked and it does kinda sound like Time-Lost Proto Drake v2.0 (so, for that matter, does the gray camel)

I know what you meant, but just letting you know.

Awesome story, I killed Aeonaxx on my hunter, was a pain in the ***. I also found a Mysterious Camel Figurine but only dust.
