Eric Flannum gives tips and advice on making it as a game designer.

Eric Flannum has up a quite interesting blog posting on those who are interested in breaking into the gaming industry with 'How to Make It as a Game Designer'.

Once you’ve decided whether or not game design is the right career for you, there are a few things that you can do to get started. There are many schools that you can attend that will provide you with an education tailored specifically towards game design. Two of the schools that I’ve seen produce good job candidates are Digipen and The Guildhall at SMU.

Many designers I’ve worked with have also attended traditional colleges. I’ve known designers with degrees in many different disciplines from Physics to Literature, so there isn’t a single required subject to study or receive a degree in. However, if you were looking at maximizing your time in school towards a career in game design, I would suggest studying either art or computer science depending on your inclinations.
