Blizzard's New Launcher Eases WoW Patch Day Woes
Blizzard's new launcher removes the anxiety that players may experience on patch days.
Are you tired of waiting for the patch to download so you can start playing World of Warcraft again? Wait, no longer!
Blizzard is currently testing a new feature in the launcher which allows you to play the game while streaming data is sent to your computer on demand. The system is integrated into a new launcher, and while it still has bugs, being in beta, it promises to make patch day less annoying. The blue announcement post is here and they’ve also posted an F.A.Q. here.
The experience is for the most part pretty smooth. When you first log in, you can see the progress of loading your character. When you select a character and start playing, the world is built around you as you move around. Taking a portal to a new location can sometimes take a while, but it’s quite playable for simple exploration and quests. On a patch day you’re only downloading new content, so the play experience should be nearly indistinguishable from normal.
