New Stellarvox Article Describes Genidia Project

As we reported, Reakktor Media recently unveiled its new Stellarvox Veritas Web site, which is a virtual news broadcast that contains background information on Black Prophecy's lore. The articles on the site explore the chain of events that "ousted Homo Sapiens from the top of human evolution," which makes them an interesting read for both fans of the MMO and science fiction in general.

The site's third article was recently posted, and it's the first part of the Genidia Project series. It focuses on Explorer 422's analysis of the flora and fauna of Tau Ceti IV as the humans search for potential colony worlds. You can read the full article after the jump.

Explorer 422 had sent galore of data including radiation measurement results and soil analysis from Tau Ceti IV to Earth. Farmland architects and agriculture bio-geneticists received detailed information about composition of the atmosphere and the soil at the probe’s landing site. However, they were aware that Explorer 422 only captured a tiny amount of the actual domestic fauna and flora of Tau Ceti IV.

The major part of the analysis had to be done by the colonists on an 8 year long parking stay in the planet’s orbit. Only trained scientific teams were allowed to set foot on the planet’s surface until the edibility of plants and animals and their correlation with the environment was researched. Autonomous probes that were able to examine the flora and fauna of potential colony worlds for spores, toxins and bacteria were first developed and deployed by the Tyi. With these probes they were able to stand up to the Genides in the matter of colonizing worlds even though they only set out to the stars a century after the Genides’ expulsion.

Although the cargo holds of the Sabiador colony ships were filled with megatons of freeze-dried seeds for fruits, vegetables, wheat and herbs, nobody could guarantee that the seeds and crops from Earth would withstand the solar radiation and the atmosphere of Sabiador over extended periods of time or if the light of the Tau Ceti sun would allow an oxygen-producing photosynthesis. Also nobody knew whether wild growing crop plants like cereals, fruits or vegetables were thriving on Sabiador, or whether they would be edible or harm the Human metabolism. The food reserves in the cargo holds of the ships would only last for a maximum of 20 months. According to the long term planning, the colonist would cover their complete food requirements with vegetable and animal products from domestic farming and animal husbandry after 12 months at the latest.

The main focus of the bio-geneticists’ efforts was to assure the nutrition of the colonist after the arrival on Sabiador. First genesis tests for the cultivation and breeding of vitally important and resistant crops already began in the first year of the journey. In hermetically sealed plantations that ranged over whole ship decks, attempts were made to artificially establish the atmosphere of Sabiador and simulate the light of the Tau Ceti sun based on the data that was submitted by Explorer 422.  An apparently endless sequence of greenhouses, biosphere lots, botanic gardens, aquariums, terrariums and farm animal enclosures simulating a synthetically generated planetary surface: the Genidea-Project.
